Wacky prediction of the year: United States to split up
Here's a Wall Street Journal story about a Russian professor with KGB experience who is predicting that by fall of 2009, the United States will descend into a civil war that will lead to the country splitting into six countries.
The professor predicts that Alaska would revert to Russian control, which would be bad news for anyone hoping Sarah Palin runs for the presidency in 2012.

A guy named Igor who worked for the KGB!! I'm sure that this wasn't designed to stir things up. Besides, the "report" and I use the term loosely, said that New Mexico would join the "Republic of Texas". That's not likely, as we actually elect Democrats to public office here in New Mexico unlike our neighbors to the east who badly want the South to Rise Again! I was born and raised in Texas and moved out after George Bush was elected as governor. I'll gladly join the New Mexico Partisans to fight against Texas!! Also, I'll vote to secede Alaska to Russia. After all, Sarah Palin can see Russia from her front porch. They can have it!

I really wish the New Republic of Texas would take back New Mexico and also the ceded territory of the 50 mile wide pan handle that is the the front range of Colorado all the way to Wyoming. We'll dispatch the Partisans like Norm, don't worry about them. They don't fight!
The Russian has no clue about american politics. I doubt six separate countries, but I do see scenarios as to where we could split into three different countries, with maybe (and hopefully) California going to Mexico.
And the south could rise again.
