Fire Department statement on swine flu

| | Comments (7) |

From the San Bernardino City Fire Department:

Additional cases of Swine Flu have been reported in the United States and Mexico. The San Bernardino City Fire Department is issuing this announcement to provide information on these events and endorse the recommendations of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the CA Department of Public Health.

* As of April 29, 2009, fourteen CA residents have been diagnosed with confirmed swine Influenza A (H1N1) virus infection. All have recovered.
*
There are 77 more cases confirmed from nine other states, totaling 91 cases in the U.S. including one death.
*
Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a common respiratory disease of pigs, but it doesn't normally infect humans. Human cases have occurred, however, most commonly among people with direct exposure to pigs.
*
You cannot get swine flu from eating pork.
*
There is no vaccine to protect people from swine flu.
*
The public does not need to take any unusual precautions at this time, other than what they would do for normal seasonal influenza.
o Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
o Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
o Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
o Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
o Stay home and limit contact with others if you're sick.

The symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Some people with swine flu also have reported vomiting and diarrhea.

If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, such as a fever over 100 degrees with a cough or sore throat, please consult with your medical provider.

For more information about swine influenza, you can access the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's web page on swine influenza at www.cdc.gov/flu/swine/index.htm

This is a evolving situation and we will continue to provide updated guidance and new information as it becomes available.

Somehow the fireman in SB have assumed the mantra of "Hero". Where were they when 500 homes burned down in 2003. I'll tell you where they were-they were sitting in their lazyboy recliners watching movies. Pathetic, truely pathetic

I'll tell you where we were. We were moving from one house to the next as fast as possible. 50 firefighters on duty at one time fighting 500 house fires. You do the math. We saved as many houses as possible. Why do you think there are houses still standing in the middle of burn areas? I'll tell you why. Because firefighters stood between the fire and the house and saved it along with that families personal belongings. You should go to a fire station and talk to your firefighters to find out what they do for the citizens on a daily basis, not just what they do on the days that make the news.

Don't forget some of them (not all) were harassing their female counterparts. Check out the lawsuit filed by a female SPFD Captain against those firefighters and the city.

Yes, I agree. The firefighter's of this city are lazy, whiny and worthless. They would all be well advised to pack up and go elsewhere where they are appreciated. Leave the city in the capable hands of Pat Morris and Operation Phoenix!!! So what if there are 26,000 911 calls a year with hundreds of shootings, stabbings, fires and heart attacks. Fires go out on their own, eventually, medical calls take care of themselves-It's called death. Yes, get rid of the firefighters and tell the county coroner to stock up on body bags. We can store them at all the community centers we can build with the money we will save! San Bernardino will once again be a great city attracting new business, new tax paying residents and everythig will be better whan they are gone.

thank the Lord above we have our fire dept heroes...who roll out in mass...so you can be billed for their attendance....its almost a race to the scene just so their presence can be added to your bill .....100's of shootings a year....you must live next to some kid playing video games all night....the fire dept depends on idiots like you to carry forth their message of doom....i can see them now...huddled up trying to master mind their next blundering attempt at bilking the all ready cash strapped city out of money for their overtime fiasco...
