Mayor: No internal candidates for police chief gig
Here's an interesting note on the police chief recruitment process:
Mayor Pat Morris said Tuesday that 47 candidates applied for the police chief position, which on Monday went to Bell Gardens chief Keith Kilmer. Of those 47, none came from within the ranks of SBPD.
"We had no interest from within," Morris said.

That should speak volumes to Chief Kilmer about what talent he'll be surrounded by. What does that say about Billdt's leadership development. Oh, I forgot, one has to be a leader to develop others to be leaders.
But I'll bet the captains (Lemos, Boom, & Henson) will be falling all over each other to vie for Asst. Chief, not because they're qualified (because none of them are), but for the money aspect only. They'll soon be taking up whatever hobbies or sports the new chief likes. Pathetic.
What a union pogue you are. You lack any honesty, credibility or awareness of what really causes the department to suffer and will continue to suffer. As an officer who saw and lived what occurred in this fine agency, those captains and those recently retired, did not submit for the job because of the deceitful, dysfunctional, undermining and caustic POA board coupled with the constant political subtrefuge by Penman, McCammack, Estrada and biased reporting from the Sun. Those are the exact reasons qualified internal candidates REFUSED to take part. And when Chief Kilmer reports for duty it won't be long before the undermining from the politicos and POA "leaders" go after him. After all he is a Morris appointment and Penman, McCammack and the POA won't let that stand in the upcoming election season. Good luck to Kilmer, assuming he makes it to June 1st.
ok, Mr. True History is without a doubt Chief Billdt or one of his direct minions - Paterson. It's probably a minion, since Billdt can't write more than 2 words himself.
I love how angry and pathetic Billdt and his cronies are. After all the screwups, after all the painful damage done to this fine department on their watch they still have to blame everybody but themselves. Oh, it's the POA, wah, wah, wah. Crybabies.
Now, they are already predicting the downfall of new Chief Kilmer. Actually hoping for it! Will he make it to June 1?
What a bunch of sour grapes. Watch as the morale, basic business and competency all be restored to normal order soon after Kilmer takes command.
SBPD is a great Department! it has just been destroyed by BIlldt and his idiots. Kilmer will return sanity and things will be looking up in no time.
You know what is pathetic? This squabble between Morris (and his cronies) and Penman (and his cronies). It's a big game that has ruined this city. No wonder people laugh when you say you like in San Bernardino.
When the former Code Enforcement Director suggests a boxing match between the Mayor and City Attorney you know there are problems - maybe they should charge big $$$ to help pay off the city debt - then they would really be doing something worthwile.
To True History,
Very well said. You hit the nail on the head. Common sense and firsthand knowledge does reign. Having been there myself and seeing firsthand all the internal shenanigans pulled by some I also am fully aware of the cancer behind the scenes. Between the Desrochers, Lowes, POA antics, scheming, undermining, and politics with some at city hall what a mess created. But as you read, those who are uninformed and have unrepentent animosity will relentlessly attack with their bs. If this wasn't so sad it would be comical. I will get labeled as a Billdt supporter or Boom, Patterson, etc. Thats Ok though because Billdt has been unfairly lambasted over the months by these evil doers. I wish him the best because if there ever was a "Perfect Storm" during ones tenure it was now and who manipulated and directed it from different fronts is known.
I love how the Billdt supporters will come up with every excuse in the book for why the rank and file, the civilian support, and the general public and the city council all want the guy to get outta town.
The guy inspired confidence in no one and clearly favored his cronies over everyone else. If he had a college degree he might have known that he couldn't effectively lead that way.
But enough! The book has already been written on this moron. Billdt is old news.
Good luck Kilmer. Rebuilding this dept. will be a huge job.
The guy above me is obviously a hack with one objective: To prop up the disasterous administration that's in place while lobbing harmful insinuations at the new chief coming in.
BILLDT IS THE LEAST QUALIFIED CHIEF IN THE STATE! How hard is that for you to understand? It's right there for all to see. After trying to hide it for months, his resume reveals: No college degree, no FBI training, no executive training. He wouldn't even be qualified to be a SGT. in most departments!
Kilmer is a legitimate leader with the background to match. Give him a chance to succeed and hopefully the Billdt nightmare will fade right away.
Morris has once agin LIED to the public!!! I know of two candidates that applied from within.
One was a current manager, and the other was a patrolman who has more college education than Billdt had primary education!
Good riddance Billdt and Kimball! Don't let the door hit ya where the Lord split ya!!!
