New SBPD Chief: Bell Gardens' Keith Kilmer
City Hall has just announced that the city's next police chief will be Keith Kilmer, who is currently the police chief for Bell Gardens.
Kilmer started as Bell Gardens' chief in 2006, after serving as a commander in the Long Beach Police Department. His resume shows that he has earned a law degree from Western State University College of Law and has also studied policing at FBI National Academy and LAPD's West Point Leadership Academy.
The chief-designate is expected to begin work on June 1 and earn an annual salary of $203,700. He is set to give back 10 percent of his pay until June 30, 2010, which is in line with other city employees' concessions.

And with that law degree the Morris camp can have his run against Penman is two years for City Attorney! What planning!
LoL! C.J. your are a riot (funny). Just because he has a law degree does not mean he is authorized to practice law. The article is not clear about Mr. Kilmer being a member of the CA State Bar. From the article I would gather that he holds a Juris Doctrine which does not make him an attorney. As such, change is good. Maybe it's time for Mr. Penman to be voted out of office. I have not seen any big impact he's made in our community. Out with the old in with the new.
Buh Bye, Billdt!
Gentlemen, I bet you would be very surprised if you knew the educational attributes of some of the officers within the SBPD. There are others who are members of the Ca BAR that you are unaware of. Be careful the old foot-in-the-mouth disease is terminal if you get it and you both have exposed yourselves.
It is time to sit back and watch, withhold the catty comments and give this new Chief an opportunity to orientate himself to the task at hand. He needs your support and the support of everyone to be successful in his new position. He has a big job to do and he is qualified to do it, please don’t get in his way.
SB is my home town and I still have family there. I worked with Keith in Long Beach and it was our loss when he left to become Chief for Bell Gardens. You are getting a great guy who will fully dedicate himself to the Officers and the people they work for, the citizens of San Bernardino.
CocaCole:
You are assuming that I want Penman to remain in office. The ham-fisted attempt by the Morris camp to put Milligan in the City Attorney's office was just sad....I would like to see a qualified candidate who offers an alternative. It would be assumed that as a candidate Chief Kilmer would have a pro-police, tough on crime agenda which would do the City of San Bernardino wonders......I think new blood in several of the seats at the front of the Council Chambers would do the city good.....that's all I was sayin!
