View Police Chief-designate Keith Kilmer's resume

Here's a copy of City Hall's press release on incoming Police Chief Keith Kilmer's appointment. The announcement includes a copy of Kilmer's resume and his employment offer.

SB Now readers may remember that current Police Chief Michael Billdt's resume was not made public until September of last year. The release confirmed that Billdt rose to the rank of chief without earning a four-year degree from an accredited college or university, but did receive from a now-defunct school in Orange County called August Vollmer University.

It's open to debate whether formal education should trump professional law enforcement experience in hiring police chiefs. But police chiefs and other city officials are public servants, so there's no reason to keep their resumes in the dark. The immediate release of Kilmer's resume is the way things should be done.

well, it looks like we've got a serious, professional, qualified person to be chief. Just having a pulse and the ability to work with others puts the new chief far above Chief Billdt, who was a complete moron who never should have been anywhere near a leadership position.

Makes one wonder why City Hall was not as eager to release Billdt's resume, because they would be embarassed. Chief Kilmer's pages of resume is truthful compared to Billdt's one page resume.

In Chief Kilmer's case, he's got both, formal education & quality leadership law enforcement experience, oh & one more thing--honesty-- that's 3 for Chief Kilmer and ZERO for Billdt. & Billdt didn't rise through the ranks, he blew his way up there.
June 1st cannot get here sooner!

Congratulations to Chief Kilmer.
He's inheriting a run-down dept.--thanks to Billdt & his bobble head cronies--yes, you Boom, Capt. Arragont himself, we'll also throw in cry baby. After all you learned from the puppet masters--Billdt & Kimball. And you Lemos, Capt. Spineless & Mindless, (been to your AA meeting lately?). To think one of these two could actually be our next Ass. Chief. I hope Chief Kilmer realizes these two are clones of Billdt & Kimball.
Too bad he couldn't bring in his own Asst. Chief...
Aside from those minor issues, better days are just around the corner with our new chief. He needs our support. It's not even June and I already feel safer in SB.

cruisin in sb, that was hilarious!

good luck to Kilmer. I am optimistic that he'll do well. With the cancer gone, the department should return to health.

Its just plain aggravating and sad reading the above garbage coming from people that are totally misinformed or are upset because maybe they were held accountable for their actions. But my concern is about the new Chief coming in even though I hope he has success. It is my underastanding he left Long Beach as a Commander that is essentially equivalent to a Lieutenant here at SBPD. Why did he leave Long Beach? He became Chief at Bell Gardens. Was that his motivation? How did he become a Commander at Long Beach so quickly. As one person erroneously states about Chief Billdt above, did this guy blow his way up or is he just good?

Bell Gardens isn't exactly the hot spot as crime goes. 2.5 square miles with 44,000 people. Seems he is in for an awakening in SB especially when the crime rate starts to rise again. Why is he leaving Bell Gardens? Ego? Or is there something else like numerous lawsuits plagueing that department? I've seen a few on line. As I said, I hope he has success but seriously don't upset the POA or hold any egomaniacs accountable for their actions no matter how well some like them.

The guy above me is obviously a hack with one objective: To prop up the disasterous administration that's in place while lobbing harmful insinuations at the new chief coming in.

BILLDT IS THE LEAST QUALIFIED CHIEF IN THE STATE! How hard is that for you to understand? It's right there for all to see. After trying to hide it for months, his resume reveals: No college degree, no FBI training, no executive training. He wouldn't even be qualified to be a SGT. in most departments!

Kilmer is a legitimate leader with the background to match. Give him a chance to succeed and hopefully the Billdt nightmare will fade right away.

The guy who writes about me is very uninformed and probably one who has been in trouble or held accountable by the administration currently in place. I am far from being a hack and know Billdt is very qualified for the position he has held despite lacking some certificates etc others unwittingly think are prerequistes to be a Chief. However, my words are just that words. But, as I said having seen firsthand the shenanigans and undermining take place his rhetoric does not surprise me. I too hope Kilmer has success. How does he know he is a legitemate leader already? If you pull up his background and investigate some issues there are some red flags that should be of concern. I've also seen the glory boys rise fast through the ranks with the degrees and certificates hanging on the wall only to be educated idiots. I'll say it again and only those of reason will probably get it but the true problem behind all that has occurred has not been Billdt but some of the aforementioned in concert with others. If this person wants to get straightened out I suggest he have a meeting with Billdt and talk with him instead of blowing hot air about stuff he has no total clue about.

Others "unwittingly think are prerequisites for chief?" Like what? A college degree? FBI academy? leadership certs?

Those are basic minimum requirements to be chief in 99 percent of the police departments in California. ARe they all unwitting?

You, concerned, are either a complete idiot or a slavish Billdt loyalist. That is all that could explain the nonsense you keep saying.

To Just a Thought,

No Sir, I am mainly directing that comment to the ones who have constantly sought to destroy Billdt and those who have served under him. They have always had an agenda with its many roots held by destructive undermining ways initially started because of actions he took against some people who dropped the ball so to speak. Billdt does have a college degree similar to many others within but its not good enough for those seeking to destroy him. He did not go to the FBI academy but don't be fooled about that overblown certificate. He has been to leadership classes but of course they are not good enough. He made his way to the top thru hard work and other Chiefs recognizing his capabilities. Naturally, thats not good enough and those people will be cast as dummies or something else. Contrary to the crap you read in some of these blogs by simply evil people he made his way up because he is smart, sharp, and possesses good common sense. Of course I get labeled a loyalist but true is true and he can hold his own with any of the Chiefs out there. But, if you don't want to believe that thats your perogative I simply know better.

Did you know that the first law enforcment chief, according to the book called " The SanBernardinos", for the city, was from a family of cattle theives , whose herd had many questionable brands and kept them up in the Barton Flats area?
