"San Bernardino Parties Like it's 199"

San Bernardino is scheduled to celebrate the 199th anniversary of its name at noon May 20 at City Hall Plaza.

The celebration is slated to include a cake baked at Art Institute of California - Inland Empire and cheerleaders from San Bernardino High School.

The event flier proclaims that "San Bernardino Parties Like it's 199," meaning there's one year to go for the burg's planned bicentennial bash. There was no word if the sky will turn purple.

The bicentennial event will mark the 200th anniversary of the name San Bernardino, but as Sun columnist John Weeks has reported, it's not the actual birthday for the city itself.

Father Francisco Dumetz gave San Bernardino its name in May 1810 after traveling from Mission San Gabriel. The Mormon wagon train carrying settler who would establish the town that became San Bernardino did not reach the valley until June 1851.

PARTY PARTY PARTY

Lets see if there is any money in the budget for the Alice in Wonderland " HAPPY UNBIRTHDAY" celebration.
OOOOOOOOOOOOO, will the city have enough money to even fly flags, and will they put up the "Big Boy U.S.A. FLAG???
I am sure the city will squeeze the vendors for big: set up, location and probably % of their take as well, fees.
Normal operation; Need some kind of "Non- Celebration" to keep the attention of the tax payers away from the real problems at city hall. Give them a party to forget our problems. Maybe that is a good idea. Hmmm.
A party for the naming of the area, and not the founding of the city, sponsored by the city, some funding by the city and will cost plenty for law enforcement patrols and fire staff to be on call as well, along with all the city staff support costs for lay out, set up and clean up.

I am sure the up and coming campaigns, will utilize this party planning and the build up to the party, as why I (insert candidate's name) am running for this office.
Party Hearty Berdoo!! It is your "UN-BIRTHDAY" soon!
By the way, My hat is off to all the great volunteers on this party. I know you have much to do and accomplish. Good Luck!
