Cops of the year

Six local cops have been selected as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for their respective departments.

The honorees are:

For the San Bernardino Police Department, John Echevarria. Echevarria is a K-9 handler who also works with the department's SWAT team.

For the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Federico "Freddy" Hernandez. Hernandez works out the sheriff's Central Station and patrols Grand Terrace.

For the California Highway Patrol, Kellie Riley. Riley works out of CHP's Rancho Cucamonga station where she works graveyard shift.

For the San Bernardino City Unified School District Police Department, Rocky Dobson. Dobson is the department's detective and participates in anti-gang enforcement with the SMASH team.

For the California State University San Bernardino Police Department, James Bradford. Bradford is also a student and teaches self-defense and sexual assault awareness courses at the campus.

For the San Bernardino Community College District Police Department, Adam Keophommachack. Keophommachack was born in Laos and has held multiple security-related jobs before attaining his goal of serving in Law Enforcement.

The honorees were recognized Thursday at a dinner held at the National Orange Show Events Center. The dinner was sponsored by the San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce and The Sun.
