SAN BERNARDINO -- A dozen members of the Minuteman Project visited the downtown offices of United States and Mexican officials Wednesday while speaking against what they consider to be the policy failures that led to the recent killing of an American border agent.
"Today's event is a solemn procession in honor of border agent Robert Rosas," said Raymond Herrera, national rally spokesman for the anti-illegal immigration Minuteman Project.
Rosas, a U.S. Border Patrol agent Robert Rosas was shot to death July 23 in San Diego County. Mexican authorities have announced that the primary suspect in the shooting and other men have been taken into custody.
Speaking outside of Sen. Barbara Boxer's field office in San Bernardino -- a frequent spot of Minuteman Project protests -- Herrera likened Rosas' death to that of a soldier on a battlefield. He said he was outraged that he hasn't seen a public statement from Boxer nor President Obama that reflects upon Rosas' death.
A Boxer spokesman wrote in an email that the senator preferred to make private comments to Rosas' family.
"Senator Boxer expressed her condolences privately in a letter to the family of Agent Rosas," said Zachary Coile wrote. "She felt it was the appropriate thing to do in the wake of this terrible killing."
After going inside Boxer's office to deliver their views to one of the senator's staffers, Herrera and other protestors proceeded to the downtown Mexican Consulate for a brief meeting with political and public affairs consul Federico Bass.
"We certainly regret the death of Agent Rosas. It was a tragic death under any circumstances and these types of incidents should not happen between our countries," Bass said in a post-meeting interview.
Bass, who called the meeting "an exchange of opinions and points of view of which we do not agree," also said Mexico would be willing to extradite Rosas' suspected killer for prosecution. However, the Mexican government would insist that the death penalty not be imposed after any conviction.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that anyone got killed; however, you have to understand that this group of individuals shoots immigrants in the fields. People who are just trying to get a better life are shot down like small game out there and left for dead. My friend, Christie, investigated this and almost got shot, herself. Luckily, she was quick about it. Andrew, if you want some video footage or a chance to talk with Christie, you've got my info. It's not my thing, but it's a worthwhile cause. When will we ever learn peace?
I do not advocate shooting anyone however if the immigrants would immigrate in a lawful fashion this wouldn't be an issue. It is great that they want to work toward a better life - so do it legally.
Every American citizen in this country either did that themself or their ancestors did.
Laurie:
You're a ****** - I mean you're incorrect. My ancestors never came on any boat or crossed boarders legally. We've been here from the beginning and the Mexicans ARE ORIGINALLY FROM HERE...Let them in. Don't be racist. Nearly EVERYONE'S ANCESTORS WHO CAME HERE CAME ON BOATS CAME ILLEGALLY!!! The "legal" process takes too long for some. I don't appreciate the scolding after saying it wasn't okay to shoot the immigrants, either. It's like saying, "Oh, it's not nice that they killed you, but remember that you deserved it because you didn't follow the rules, now...so it was called for." You're about as bad as people who claim English is the National Language (there IS NO National Language). Closet racism and superiority complexes suck.
Could this be just another example of Senator Boxer wanting to stay at arms length away from issues that have great public impact? Her reply is reflective of having NO CLASS which is not surprising. Next time (should there be one) she will probably have her comments printed somewhere in the classified section of the newspaper. If Senator Boxer and Fienstein are re-elected in California, all hope for this state and Country will be lost.
Squaw:
I believe there is a long held theory of the American Indian coming across the ice bridge of the north pacific from Asia. IF so , that would put this continent in the position of being constantly changing over time, as to who comes to visit and stays, and who utilizes the land for any given period.
Also the stability of this continent is based on the occupants intent to keep safe the people, land and it's assets.
Kind of makes us all visitors, ya think?????????
To:..Just asking:
AMEN TO THAT!!! Boxer has a nasty mouth and vile attitude. Ie; the first day she was elected to office!
