SB's campaigns start to take shape

A little more than one week remains for potential candidates to pull papers to run for San Bernardino city offices in the November elections. The deadline is Aug. 7.

The Mayor's seat, as well as council seats for the First, Second and Fourth wards are up for grabs.

SB Now and The Sun will present more detailed stories on the campaign after candidates are officially on the ballot and campaigns begin in earnest. Here is a list of who has pulled papers so far:

- Mayor:

Pat Morris, incumbent
Sir Isaac Lindsay,
Rick Avila (also ran in 2005 campaign)

- First Ward City Council:

Esther Estrada, incumbent

- Second Ward City Council:

Dennis Baxter, incumbent
Sebastian Sanchez
Alex Avila

Fourth Ward City Council

Fred Shorett, incumbent
Joe Arnett (also ran in March Special Election)

Additionally, this reporter received a press release Thursday afternoon from political consultant Chris Jones announcing that Jason Desjardins plans to run for the Second Ward seat. Desjardins has been in the news recently as an opponent of the proposal to establish a city-run tow yard.

Jones is also working on Arnett's council campaign.

SB does NOT need to get into the vehicle towing and storage business. This is yet another scam to gouge the public like the traffic camera's due. Last I heard and read, there are restrictions against the City from making money. If true, where is our elected City Attorney? Where is his guidance with these issues? This is yet another reason why we need big change in City elected leadership in the worse way as soon as possible. Voters, we may not have term limits officially but we still can change the guard in November!

Who are these people? Where are their Bio's? If they are an incumbent, what have they done for the Ward they want to represent and what have they done for the City as a hole (other than agree to disagree!). IF they are new to the political arena, what do they bring to the table that makes them qualified to speak for their Ward? Are they willing to stand firm and alone if necessary in representing the will of the people he/she represent? Is this individual willing to voice the people's opinion even if it means voting against the Mayor or majority?

The elections are 3+ short months away and the "people" need to know about each of these candidates. Where are the published facts or information needed to make an intelligent choice?

Hello Andrew, My understanding is that Jason is not a qualified elector in the 2nd Ward and therefore would be unable to run for this office. Though, I cant believe that Chris Jones, who is a out-of-town Brulte/Postmus/Erwin/Derry operative, did not thoroughly check him out. It also appears that his towing business, Big Z, located at 3rd st and I st., has some code violations and non-permitted uses. Lets see if Code Enforcement does anything about this situation. You would have thunk that somebody would of told Jason how polictics are played in Ol' Berdoo.

Mr. Shorett, alias "Lap dog turned Attack dog", (Nice description Joe Ortiz!)
Regarding last night's council vote.
YOU THOUGOUGHLY DISGUST ME!!!!!
Keep your bags packed Fred, we will have Joe Arnett moving in real soon!
And then watching Brinker give both you and Baxter "the pat on the shoulder" as he left ; to his tired and exhausted family , waiting out in the hot parking lot after an all day trip, to bail you out!
You 3 musketeers are full of "Musk". P U!!
Rikke, is back in the "FOG" again; helping Pat bring more of Pat's "Brothers and Sisters"( his own words) back to SanBernardino from their jail cells.
Oh, Mr. Baxter, your "NATIVE SON'S OF THE GLOBULAR WEST" great guru, Jim Smith, appears to have become a
rowdy "cat caller" in lieu of respecting other public speakers. Gee , that realy makes your organization look good!
I recall another fiasco of your organization at a restaurant on Highland ave, and how your members were so rude in public. Wow, your out fit just keeps looking sadder and sadder. You obviously don't help it either.
