Budget punt blocked

The City Clerk's Office has confirmed that after this reporter left Monday's City Council meeting to file a budget story by the night's deadline, Councilman Dennis Baxter changed his vote on the budget.

So now the city has a budget, passed by yet another 4-3 vote.

That'll learn ya ta trust in local politics to be settled!

Baxter punked out: big time! It really shows how much thought he puts into his decisions, huh? "OOPS! That wasn't how you wanted me to vote? Sorry, I'll fix it!" He doesn't have an original thought in his head, does he?

The reporter should know not to try to second guess or assume he knows what the politicians of SB will or are going to do. When you think you know, you leave your assignment (to cover the story)and you get burned. Another lesson learned in the life of being a SB SUN Reporter.

You must not realize that everything had been decided for quite some time and the reporter wasn't assuming. Dennis Baxter is the one who decided to have the issue recalled and change his vote to fit what the mayor wanted. The reporter would've had to be psychic to get this one. It was not his fault and it came out of nowhere. There was noreason to believe city council would do something that stupid.

If I was a government official, I could probably just say "there were lessons learned."

What happened is that after the council voted the first time, I chose to leave the meeting in order to file the story ASAP so as not to keep our copy editors waiting any longer than necessary.

I've had some technological difficulties with my laptop and chose to file from the newsroom. Obviously, this turned out to be an incorrect decision, since the council went for a re-vote after I left.

Don't worry about it, Andrew. The issue was supposed to be closed. You did absolutely nothing wrong or irresponsible. For crying out loud, everyone assumed the issue was closed. Could you blame yourself for not knowing that, on the complete opposite side of town at an odd time, something out of the norm happened and you weren't there to see it? Quit being apologetic for not being psychic.
