Fourth Ward candidate announces new endorsements
Fourth Ward City Council challenger Joe Arnett's campaign has announced that he has secured the endorsements of both the Central Labor Council and San Bernardino Valley Republican Assembly.
Arnett, who is challenging incumbent Fred Shorett, has also locked up the endorsements of the city's police and firefighters union. However, the latest round of campaign finance disclosures shows that Shorett was well ahead in fundraising.

Well, I doubt Shorett is going to win. He is a character, huh? He claims to support PD and FD, yet really doesn't support them when they need him. I'll bet he IS ahead in funding. He's a great liar and promises a lot that he has no intention of keeping.
Let me recall: Shorett whipped Arnett and two other candidates five months ago in a special election with 72.77 percent of the vote.
Arthur Miller's, Willie Loman, in 'Death of a Salesman', said it all, "It is not enough to be liked, you have to be well liked."
Shorett is well liked and that is why he will win.
Sally, I don't know what planet you come from, but Fred is HATED in San Bernardino. ROFLOL! His "beloved public" wants to stomp him out of office right now. You see, he ran with the promise to support cops and firefighters and, when that turned out to be a load of lies, people decided to turn on him, too. Fred is GONE!
Just Me, You either need to take more drugs or none at all. You are really delusional to say the least. I can tell you know absolutely nothing about Fred, politics, or San Bernardino. Arnett is just another Penman lacky who will go down to defeat in a most inglorious manner. I know of a recent 4th ward voter poll that showed Shorett beating Arnett by 25 points. Arnett's name ID barely registered at all. What do you have to back-up your boast. I suspect nothing, nothing at all.
Perhaps, it's because Arnett has the POA and firefighters Union backing him. LOL! Look, Fred is going to be trounced upon in this election, or I see nothing good about your ward. If you would support a liar and a cheat like Fred, you're useless as a voter, even to yourself.
JM: What a moron! I can't believe what you've said about good old Fred, whom a lot of us old timers have known for decaades. Some of us have been around the City of
San Bernardino for generations and know the Shorett's and their friends very well. I hear that long time Congressman Jerry Lewis will be endorsing Shorett this week. Lewis, who has never endorsed a local candidate, like Shorett, is a San Bernardino Natifve Son. Hello, JM, what don't you know about heritage. Shorett's family has been serving the East Valley for generations and will be here long after you ilk is gone.
I was raised in San Bernardino and I love it as much as anybody could. I don't care if he's King Kong. I'm not going to ignore that he lied in his promise to support police and firefighters. Clearly, they aren't caring who his great, great grand pappy is, either because they're not endorsing him. Furthermore, my choice not to endorse him is my own and I can shout the truth about his bad butt all over town if I choose. He did not do his job and that's the truth.
I find your stuck-up attitude of, "Well, I NEVER" absolutely hilarious. Native Sons, elk/moose lodge...Whatever. He's bad for San Bernardino. I don't care who he takes tea with. I couldn't care less who his parents were or who his children will be. It won't make a difference if it hasn't already done so on his awful character.
The great part of that, by the way, is that his kids will have a clean slate with me and other good Americans. Who knows? I may end up supporting a member of his family later on in life.
I can't believe you're so ignorant as to judge someone on who their family is. ROFLOL! My biological father was a judge in this county...AND? What does that mean? Will you polish my shoes, now? I don't think you've quite got the idea of "America" down just yet.
LOL...an elitist...in San Bernardino...ROFLOL! "Native Sons"!!!HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Mr. Shorett won the March special election by 53% (72 to 19) over Arnett. Now Sally says that recent polling indicates that Mr. Shorett's lead has been cut to 25%. Sounds like the incumbent has lost a ton of voter support--and the fall campaign hasn't even begun yet.
I am a past grand president of the Native Sons, and in view of the foregoing exchange of comments, I feel the need to make something as plainly clear as possible:
The Native Sons of the Golden West is not a political organization.
It is a voilation of the organization's principles, precepts, customs and Constitution to use its name, emblems, insignia or resources to advance the campaign of ANY political candidate ever under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
Political support must never be offered in exchange for membership in the organization.
Anyone who embarks upon activity of that nature is engaging in a form of serious miscouduct and should be reported immediately to the organization's Grand Secretary's Office at nsgwgp@pacbell.net or 800 337-1875 so that the prohibited activities may be stopped instantly, remedial action may be taken, and that those responsible may be appropriately disciplined.
The principle of political neutrality is one which the organization takes very seriously, and we welcome the assistance of any member of the general public who observes any violation of it in helping to extinguish any violation of it.
Richard S Kimball:
I read your high priciples of rules and wonder; was that your current "gran poo pah"( who Identified himself previously at the speaker podium), who "cat called" a later public speaker, at the council meeting ( a very political venue) not long ago? Or Am I mistaken on the comments that followed the "cat calling" that was apparently aimed at the citizen at the speaker podium, in what Mr. Penman referred to as lack of decorum of audience toward the dias and speakers.
To correct the errors of the above bloggers, Congressman Lewis, as well as Congressman Baca endorse local candidates all the time. It is unfortunate that they do, but they do. Ms. Forth is incorrect when she states that Lewis never endorses locals. The real reason he needs to this time is because Shorett is losing ground fast. Morris needs his own puppets and Shorett is one of the four he needs to keep on the council this November. Arnett lost because Shorett (and Morris) bought the election with money. Arnett spent next to nothing. Shorett isn't using the brain god gave him on the council and only knows how to blame everyone else for the city's ills.
In regard to S T’s posting, I do not follow the proceedings of the San Bernardino City Council, so I have no idea who the person was to whom ST referred.
Since I do know that none of the current grand officers of the Native Sons of the Golden West have been in the vicinity of San Bernardino for many months, I am confident that it was none of them.
Like any other American citizens, members of the Native Sons are free to express whatever viewpoints they may hold toward public affairs as individuals “on their own time.”
However, they are not entitled to give the public the impression that the Native Sons supports any candidate for public office because that would be false. It is not a political organization.
They are not authorized to do that, any more that a board member of a local Red Cross chapter, a United Way or a hospital foundation would be entitled to give the impression that the agency upon whose board he served backed John Doe for senator or mayor or councilman, etc.
A person who engages in such activities is acting in a rogue manner that makes himself subject to discipline or expulsion.
The rogue, to whom Mr. Kimball refers unbeknownst (sp?) to Mr. Kimball, is no other than the heckler, Jim Smith, man about town, etc. just to have the record clear for the posters.
Thank you, “Just the Facts.” Although Mr. Smith was indeed a grand officer of the Native Sons of the Golden West for a series of years up until 28 years ago, he is not authorized in any way to make statements of a political nature in a public forum on behalf of the Native Sons.
I shall call your posting to the attention of the organization’s current grand officers.
Unfortunately, Mr. Smith has a long and embarrassing history of exceeding his authority within the organization. He has not, for some time now, been an authorized spokesman or liaison for the Native Sons. .
Boy, oh boy! Wendy, I mean, "S T" continues her crusade of bad mouthing Jim Smith to anyone who will listen in any arena available. What a sad, bitter person.
As for Richard S. Kimball, if I were a Native Son, I would really reconsider my membership if you feel comfortable discussing lodge business on a blog. For shame.
*snicker, snicker*
Well, it looks like grandpappy isn't too happy. LOL. Way to go, San Bernardino Native Sons! That was awfully American of you to set the record straight.
So now people jump all over Wendy McCammack for being honest, eh? Well, I think she's great. Her and I have opposing viewpoints on quite a bit; however, I can say that she is a very honest, caring individual who keeps her morality in the toughest of times. She has every opportunity to get personal with political adversaries, but chooses to keep her cool on a daily basis.
Frankly, she seemed to think Fred was a nice guy when I spoke with her. I was unsure about something and was ready to pounce on his case, but she jumped on my back about it, defending the situation. She's pretty fair and that's why I trust her. She only goes after the true bad stuff. Like I said, she's had every opportunity, but keeps her cool.
Oh Patience - come on! Wait til it behooves Wendy to come at you! You won't be singing her praises then! Keeping her cool? Yeah, right!
Nope, she snapped at me pretty good, there...I deserved it, though. I was wrong about what I was thinking and assuming. I was officially, deservedly, put in my place about that one issue. If she comes after me, which I doubt she will, I don't think she'll be doing it to better herself. C'mon, Wendy. Chime in here. Remember when I was worried about Fred and the lighthouse thing and you put me in my place because I was wrong?
See, the sad part is that she rarely sticks up for herself. She's just a straight arrow. I like that about her. She's no bobble head: that is for certain. God, bless her heart. She tries so hard to do right.
Wendy and I have argued about more than one issue before. The difference between her arguing with me and her arguing with others is that I'm not a mean-hearted, selfish politician. I mean well and she knows that much, I think. If we argue, it's because we don't agree and we don't call it "attacking" one another. We are not friends. She's a bit higher on the political food chain than I am. I just like who she is and respect her for her scrapping for what my city needs. It's called being "grateful" to someone who is trying to do right by you. You should try it some time.
It's refreshing to see a politician who doesn't care about what social circles someone is in and just does what's right because it's the right thing to do. Black, white, yellow, red: it's all the same to her. When she went up to help the citizens in the Arden Guthrie area, she talked with everyone and cared for everyone. They needed her and she came running for what was right. God forbid a politician care about their constituents.
I don't write this to get in her favor. She and I would never go to a barbecue together. We have nothing in common. I don't need her favor. I am simply saying what I know to be a fact. If she ever attacks me, (which I SERIOUSLY doubt she'd ever have the interest to do), then that would be separate from everything else that I've ever seen from the woman. She doesn't attack people, anyway. She goes after issues.
Tommie: I am not nor have ever been S T. You might want to go back and review some of S T's posts, as sometimes that person's opinions are 180 from mine. S T, maybe you can set the record straight for Tommie, if you choose to. Nonetheless, I have no respect for people who use everyone else's position to further their own as in one or two hecklers. I remember this one person who used to introduce me to others as the next Mayor, until I learned of factually-based crimes this person committed against others. I made my opinion known to this person and ever since then, that person started spreading ugly rumors. This person quickly changed political sides and even walked for my opponent. I lost sleep over that person, yeah right. Point was made in an earlier post about hecklers. Another posted about who it might have been. None of those posters were me. But obviously Tommie has a fear of upstanding people like Mr. Penman becoming Mayor or why post what was posted but to attack him or myself? Am I sad? Hardly ever. Bitter? Not that has ever been brought to my attention until now. Honest, forthright and to the point? My bad. Thanks, JustMe. You're right, I have never GONE after anyone. I am too forgiving. Besides, I don't have time for that. But I don't waste my time on people who are not honest and have no compassion.
S T here!
By golly I have been given a sex change and didn't feel; a thing! Whoooeeee!
I consider it a compliment being called Wendy, but alas, "Tommie", you have you have "pooh" on your mustache for slamming another person with out good cause. Wendy, I am sorry that you were dragged into my political or satirical writings.
Tommie , if you would please, apologize to Wendy and I will forgive you of your surgical mishandling of my personna. I am very fond of my own current equipment thank you. LOL.
Mr. Kimbal, thank you for your response and concern.
Wendy, It would be my pleasure to meet you some day and yet we have crossed paths.
Tommie, the ball is in your court. Do the right thing , please.
Gee Wendy you must have me confused with another "heckler". I voted for Penman in the last two elections and will vote for him again this time. I didn't attack Jim Penman. I didn't attack you, just stated the truth - I have heard you trash-talk about Mr. Smith. It might be honest, forthright, and to the point but is it necessary? Politically correct? Compassionate?
S T: My contact information is 909-883-0766 if you ever decide to talk. Would welcome it. Thank you. Tommie: I have never mentioned any names, but since you have, if the truth fits...
Tommie: is it compassionate to rape older Americans of their savings through shady investment schemes? Is is compassionate to lure unsuspecting seniors of their belongings and their identities? McCammack said it right...if the shoe fits.
