Second Ward Race: Dennis Baxter's economic development platform

| | Comments (11) |

Here is 2nd Ward incumbent Dennis Baxter's statement on economic development matters. It is unedited.

Attracting new businesses to our city will remain a challenging task so long as business leaders perceive San Bernardino to be unsafe. Our reduction in major crime numbers over the last three years received more attention from the federal government -- including even the White House -- than it did here at home. We need to get those FBI statistics out to the business community throughout Southern California, even as we work to reduce crime still further. As Chairman of the city's Grants Committee, I am pleased with the recently-approved "COPS" grant that will give us federal funds to pay for an additional dozen police officers. I am also pleased by the constituent calls I've received from people happy about our improved anti-graffiti program, which seems to be responding within a day or two in cleaning up graffiti that residents call us about.

Other important parts of our business recruitment and retention effort have to include key incentives (such as tax breaks) and the more user-friendly one-stop permit process I've been working on, soon to be unveiled by our Economic Development Agency, which will serve as a welcome mat for those who wish to succeed in business in San Bernardino.

Oh how humorous it is to read how Baxter (or as the safety employees refer to him "Backstabber") can only talk about getting more government handouts and bailouts! We don't need grants, we need tax base. Is this why Backstabber got the Democratic party's endorsement and not the Union's? Is it because he's an empty suit? Or, is he just so liberal and so extreme, that the Unions cannot put any faith in him? He is only supported by the likes of Morris, Longville and Acorn? Four more years of failure? Our city cannot recover from four more years of these buffoons in power. I can't wait to see the debates! What's ol' Dennis gonna say to defend his four years of failure? Heaven help us if he wins again.

Let me see, you don't support Baxter becaus he is not a 'union goon', so you think Desjardins is the one for the job.

I think not: Jason, by his own admission to others, first illegally registered to vote at his Big Z Towing business at 274 n. I street. Jason committed felony perjury when he signed the registration form. That is a serious charge.

Jason intended on running against Estrada until he figured out that she is on his side of the political fence. So then, Jason supposedly re-registers at a friends house on Campus Way, barely in the 2nd Ward.
That is clearly carpet-bagging.

Now for Jason the businessman: Jason's Big Z Towing property is a mess and has numerous code violations. His building has broken windows, an illegal sign on the roof, graffiti, he has illegally blocked off Broadway St. with an illegal structure, hazardous waste contamination in his impound yard, and most of all, the building does not meet current earth-quake standards and is required to be reinforced or torn down.

It seems clear to me that if Jason wants to really clean up this city, he would start by cleaning up his own blighted business.

When you consider that Jason is just another Penman tool whose campaign is being run by out-of-town polictical bagman, Chris Jones, Baxter seems to be the better choice.

Just because, said "He is only supported by the likes of Morris, Longville and Acorn?".......you must not have been at his recent fundraiser. The event was well attended by many of Ward 2 residents who support Baxter. Baxter is well loved in our Ward.

I agree with the comments made about Jason, he needs to start cleaning up the city by cleaning up his own business. That would be a good start!

I am voting for Mr Baxter, he has a proven track record.

2nd ward voter said:

Janie...yes, Baxter has a proven track record...of only working for certain residents who live in certain areas of the 2nd ward. He,however, is a big NO SHOW when it comes to other areas of the 2nd ward that need attention. He hardly knows all of his constituents and he does nothing to effect real positive change. NOPE, I am not voting for Baxter.

Another 2nd Ward Voter said:

So we should all vote for some guy that moved here just to run for our city council seat?!? Ha ha ha! What a joke! No way on Jason!

2nd ward voter said:

The real joke is Baxter (and You) if you think 4 more years of nothing is going to improve the 2nd ward.

Another 2nd Ward Voter said:

Your nothing is my something.
Desjardins is just another Penman henchman.

It's funny said:

I thought 2nd ward voter's business on Highland and "D" wasn't even in Ward 2. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

2nd ward voter said:

To another 2nd ward voter...you must live in that patch of the 2nd ward that Baxter frequents. However, isn't he suppose to represent all constituents in the ward? Like I said, when we have called him about concerns in our part of the ward he is a NO SHOW...he doesn't even return calls.
To it's funny...Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm indeed, I don't own a business on Highland and "D" Street. You must have me confused with Ms MaCammack. I wish she were our council person. At least she returns calls.

To 2nd ward resident:
Do what you gotta do. I'll tell you something though: When Desjardins came through my neighborhood his story didn't jive. Saying one thing and his printed info says another. Another thing that bothers me: why he'd leave law enforcement after 11 years on? My father-in-law is in law enforcement and he says that Jason was either fired or he wasn't promotable. He was more than halfway to retirement. He doesn't look like a medical retirement. Also I've heard that he isn't well liked by local law enforcement.
I don't know McCammack so I can't say one way or the other but why are you calling her if she is in another ward? Also she is involved with Penman so I will keep my distance. I've heard about him.
