Decorum
If you think a local politician is an idiot, post away.
If you think I am an idiot, post away.
But this blog is not the place to post innuendos about people's sex lives or to accuse private citizens of various crimes or of being sex offenders. Those comments will be unpublished at my or my editors' discretion. We like to see strong opinions here on SB Now but this isn't City Hall, so we also like to stick to the issues.
If you believe you have evidence of an issue that is worthy of news coverage, tips to the newsroom can be emailed to myself at andrew.edwards@inlandnewspapers.com or to my bosses at citydesk@inlandnewspapers.com.
Thank you.

Penman is an idiot!

I have, went no where!
It is a sad commentary when (no offence Andrew) a news reporter has to set the ground rules for decorum.
On a positive note, I went to the Grand Opening of Fresh and Easy on Highland and Del Rosa and I'mm very impressed. Mr Baxter was there for the ribbon cutting ceremony, and the place was packed! What a great business partner to have in Ward 2. Also, they are handing out $5.00 off of a $20.00 purchase and even tjrew in a cloth grocery bag. The selection of items are fantastic.
thank you - i am astounded by the lack of respect & courtesy shown on this site at times.
it's easy to be a bully from behind a computer screen - it's hard to speak clearly and with dignity to those with whom we disagree. for folks who seek to project and espouse family values... it seems as if its easier to just throw bombs, start rumors and set off a vicious tirade just for having an opposing view. whatever you think of me - i'm sticking with decorum and dignity & that's why i am supporting Mayor Morris and his team.
ps... great news on the Fresh & Easy - that's my side of town, I am ecstatic about it & see it as a precursor of good things to come to that area/corridor of SB!
I went to Fresh & Easy on the way home from work, and was I ever happy that I stopped by. I am home and we are now eating the chicken teryaki rice bowl. Yummo!
Thank goodness the city is attracting such business' as this store. It sure makes the daily grind a bit better.
SPG...I am also astounded by the lack of respect and courtesy shown on some of the blogs. However, haven't you noticed that most of the vile ones come from Morris supporters? How could you not notice? If you were at the candidate forum you heard Morris supporters first boo one of the other candidates when he was speaking. Where is the dignity and decorum in that? You just lost all credibility with me on that one.
Oh yeah...testing, testing, testing...Morris and his minions are idiots!
Thank you Andrew. As one who has been a target of many of the unflattering bombs hurled on this blog, anonymously of course, (as I know you have been), I appreciate your sentiments and thank you for standing up to the secret bullies. I was taught to always believe everyone and be respectful, when I am truly leveled with and respected. It is hard to earn trust and very easy to lose it. I respect and appreciate all those bloggers who have made valid points whether they are in concert or not with everyone else's viewpoint.
Okay, I'll be more civil if Morrisites will be civil. However, I wonder how I should react when people who can't defend themselves suffer because we've got a dictator for a mayor.
Is Mrs. McCammack kidding about being civil? She isn't civil in person let alone on this blog. She needs to record the council meetings and then curl up on the sofa with a big bag of popcorn and watch herself. When I do the same, I find that the words angry, bitter, hostile, tantrum, and rude come to mind. Why just this week she basically called every other council member an idiot when she kept bringing forward new motion after new motion and then acted like no one but her has ever heard of a book called Roberts Rules of Order when they clarified what motion they were voting on. This has gone on so long that all I hear come out of her mouth is blah, blah, blah, like Charlie Brown's teacher.
Furthermore, How many times can Chas Kelley get up and wander durring public comments. When citizens sit through hours of rudness and non functional politics waiting to give their opinions it is rude to be so disenganged. I have seen virtually every member at one time or another do things that were rudeb but the above forementioned are by far the worst.
Then we have Penman who is simply off the chain. When you look up rudness in Websters there oughta be a picture of Penman. The rant that never ended was so shameful I was embarrasses for him. It was painful to watch. Mr Penman may not like certain members or the Mayor but he needs to respect their position. Did anyone else see him making his hit list when citizen's were speaking in opposition to his position? That kind of intimidation is wrong.
The accusation about Morrisites comments on this blog are pathetic and self serving. Mrs. McCammack sometimes the truth hurts. Don't call us rude when ya'll have brought this on yourself.
Andrew.
When do we get a peek at Desjardins contibutions, he finally filed the papers.
I find Councilwoman McCammacks comments amuzing. This is the same person that smirked when citizens and civic organizations have stood at the podium during council meetings the last few months and said "Shame on you" for the lack of respect. She of course believes that this is being sent to her opponents, not herself. Her self-serving attitude is evident in everything she does. Next time someone stands at that podium and tells says "Shame on you" a little self reflection and honesty might work wonders Councilwoman.
My job as a councilmember is to passionately fight (not rubber stamp) for the taxpayer and protect the residents and their money. I have the courage to be criticized by anyone but I challenge those bloggers to run for office and sit there and be called names by public speakers and by bloggers and still keep the passion I have consistently shown for this city. I do the work of the people, not the politicians. I am called out by my constituents when they feel I have overstepped my boundaries and when I have, I have apologized. But just because I am an elected official sitting at the dais, I do not have to agree (nor do I) with many things that are said. Now, I can choose to say nothing, as it seems you would have me do, but then am I really doing the job I was elected to do? My style may not be what appeals to some of you, but those who know me well know of my passion and persistence when the taxpayers are being abused. All of us on the council get along as people, very well as a matter of fact. I have personally helped every one of my colleagues on one issue or another, even if I disagree with them. I am proud of my record and if you disagree with any of my actions call me on the phone and I am glad to discuss them with you. 909-883-0766
McCammack is missing the point, we are talking about being rude here. I find it hard to believe she thinks she can candy coat bad manners and then call it her "style". It is almost as bad as that ill fitting blazer she has been sporting. In both cases, she should make the top of Blackwells list.
Missing The Point,
I think that comments like that (and much worse) are what this blog item is all about. While Ms. McCammack is frequently out of line when on the dais it does not mean that the rest of us can act out as well.
She and her fellow councilpeople have forgotten what courtesy and respect are.
* excellence of manners or social conduct; polite behavior.
* a courteous, respectful, or considerate act or expression.
* deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment:
Ms. McCammack and her fellow councilpersons, the Mayor, and the City Attorney should be aware that the citizens of San Bernardino admire their dedication, persistence, and passion however will not quietly tolerate their discourteous manners.
I know they read Voice of the People in the SB Sun, this blog, and are in the chambers at city hall during meetings (if not in their seats) and we the people need to voice our opinion of their behavior.
Ms. McCammack, you speak of the courage to sit there while people call you names and challenge others to do the same. YOU decided to run for your seat, YOU are responsible for your actions, YOU call other people names via your anonymous blog names, YOU need to accept what your constituents have to say about you.
God willling that I am still here in two years I will not be voting for you as I have in the past. At least Both Mr. Mulvihill and Mr. Sanborn are respectful.
Wendy,
These people are pointing some very rude fingers and rude comments to push your buttons.
The wonderful part of Wendy, is her passion. I for one , am more impressed with some one who has a "passion in their beliefs", than some well versed orator who speaks to the subject ,and afterwards could give a "rats-arse".
Though Wendy and I have agreed and/or disagreed on her decisions, I trust her for her passion. If she is wrong, and she may not see it right away, in her reconciliational moments, it will come to her as it does to many who really want to see both sides; though that doesn't happen some times at the same time for the majority of us.
Most recently she made a decision ( reasons she explained to me) and it will some day be clear to her, how it may have been wrong method of deciding, but it was her decision to make and I respect her for that.
Politics is an ugly game and there are no friendships, only aqcuaintences and contacts; who will turn on you for a: good deal/favor/trade off, egos, job protection for trades on negotiations down the road, but not particularily good for the community.
Jim Penman is right , it is a shark tank at city hall and the staff is the chum , doing what they need to do just to keep their jobs, sadly. We out here are the deep waters / deep pockets, who are looked at as the masses who need direction and have no sense of such, thereby elevating the elected officials ego to higher levels. Sadly, those egos lose reality and logic for personal gain and agendas.
Finding and keeping a good elected official who can maintain their core beliefs and not become a politician, vote their convictions for the good of the community using good logic and budgetary common sense,,,,,,,never mind , that sentence makes no sense to me either!I dont believe in tooth fairy either.
Wendy, Keep the passion, work with what you believe in; and if, even the great orators, don't understand passion, that is their loss.
Hey Wendy,
no one said politics would be easy, WElcome to san bernardino have a Nice DaY!
ANDREW...
CAN YOU GET THE DAMMED TENT SALE AD OUT OF THERE. THAT IS THE MOST IRRITATING YET, OR IS THAT YOUR PEOPLES WAY OF CREATING DECORUM?????????????????
