Firefighters make quick work of hillside blaze
Some 100 firefighters attacked a fire that ignited Wednesday afternoon near the crossing of Highway 18 and Lower Waterman Canyon Road.
"We got real lucky. The fire started just below the Arrowhead Springs area in Waterman Canyon there and we were able to keep it to five acres," San Bernardino City Fire Battalion Chief Mike Alder said.
Firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service were the first responders to reach the fire and Cal Fire crews also responded to the blaze.
The fire was reported around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday and despite winds blowing around 25 to 35 mph, firefighters succeeded in halting its spread in about one hour, Alder said.

What is it about late October,Waterman canyon and fires???
Panorama,Old, and yesterday???
Makes one just a bit Paranoid.
Thanks again to the Boys in Blue on the big red trucks! Heros again. I can imagine the thoughts in everyone's minds yesterday, seeing the activities. I remember seeing the Panorama seem like a puff of smoke in the trees, up on the hill when it started.
If we ever get graffitti cameras, maybe they can be portable for the month of October, and relocate them to Waterman canyon and other known historic fire start areas.
Onc again we can thank our firefighters for their fine work! Contrary to the hateful campaign attack mailers against firefighters being put out by Councilman Shorett, most San Bernardino residents support and value our firefighters.
The campaign is against their trying to run our government by buying votes at council. Not against their assignd duties/ job asignments.
You are trying to muddy -up/ slurr the issue and your Nom de Plume is gathering "MUCK"
Shorett is not waging that campaign, it us in the media. He voted to keep the "cash /till " above the red line.
Why dont we just close one station and spread the extra manpower around so you get your 4 man crew per truck. Look at the utilities saved, fuel saved on shutting down maybe 4 vehicles, and probably a lot more.
Kelly, MacCammack will be happy, they wont need Desjardins, or Arnett and the Fire union can take back their $10 grand they spent to buy a vote. Where do they get all that extra money any way???
HHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?
Shorett's mailer was a shameful attack against courageous men and women who risk their lives to protect public safety. 4th Ward voters are strongly supportive of the city's police officers and firefighters. That's why so many former Shorett supporters are now voting for Joe Arnett.
