An updated vote tally shows that Virginia Marquez, Jason Desjardins and Fred Shorett are still leading their respective council races.

The updated numbers include late-arriving mail-in ballots that were not counted Tuesday, the day San Bernardino's voters went to the polls.

New numbers from the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters show that Marquez now has 34 vote lead over incumbent Esther Estrada in the race to represent the city's 1st Ward. Marquez has 637 votes (51.37 percent) to Estrada's 603 (48.63 percent).

In the 2nd Ward Race, Desjardins' count is now 628 votes (52.95 percent) to incumbent Dennis Baxter's 558 votes (47.05 percent).

In the 4th Ward Race, incumbent Fred Shorett has 1958 votes (52.45 percent) to challenger Joe Arnett's 1775 votes (47.55 percent).

I find it very hard to believe what I seen Nov. 03, 2009 in S.B. during the campaing between Estrada and Marquez. Not living in S.B. (I live in Las Vegas) but I own property in Fontana I keep up with the news that goes on in the county and surrounding cities. Why would anybody believe that Marquez could do a better job than Estrada? I guess they did not keep up in the years with what was happening in their community. What a shame that now they will have to self educate themselves with the new councilwoman representing their ward. No, better yet they will have to educate themselves on Joe Bacca and Pat Morris. Unfortunately, these folks in my opinion were persuaded with promises that I personally will be making sure are met. I will help be the voice of the people in San Bernardino when what they think they are getting doesn't exsist.

I hope that you are able to publish this or at least let them know that I will have my eyes and ear open for San Bernardino 1st Ward. I hope that Ms. Marquez can handle what she is set out to do. I do wish her luck.

Thank you,

Theresa
