Thursday picks

I already had this entry written, but I lost it in the excitement of seeing Erin Andrews on the blue turf at Boise State. You can’t really blame me for that, nor can you blame me for my 7-4 week in predicting high school games. You can, but I will pull a Mike Gundy on you if you do.

Anyway, before I get into my rambling, I give my sympathizes to American goalkeeper Hope Solo, who for reasons unknown to anyone with a working brain, was yanked in the United States’ 4-0 loss to Brazil despite having a great World Cup. Along with being a talented goalie, Solo is extremely attractive and might be the daughter of the coolest freedom fighter and smuggler alive, Han Solo . Ok, maybe not, but any excuse to put a picture of Chewbacca in my blog is going to be used. If you want to give Ms. Solo your support, her myspace page is here.

Now to the picks

High School
Colton at Huntington Beach Marina
I’m heading to this game in a few minutes (though I’m probably trying my luck with OC traffic by waiting this long) and expect Colton to go and do its thing. The Yellowjackets are 1-2, but its not like they are falling to the Albuquerque School of Music or the North Dakota Institute of Hip-Hop. Redlands East Valley and La Quinta are solid teams and while I don’t know much about Marina, besides its record last year (1-9) and this year (2-1), I don’t really care. Colton will show Marina what the real OC should be like.
Colton 31, Marina 12

College
Southern Miss (+10.5) at Boise State
Southern Miss was Boise State before Boise State was a Division I-A (excuse me, FBS) team, as some dude named Brett Favre led the upstart Eagles to big victories in the late 80s and early 90s. But Favre, for all he’s done, has never played on blue turf. Running back Ian Johnson has, and has done a heck of a job. The Damien graduate will do another great job tonight.
Boise State 30, Southern Miss 17
