Mojave River League breakdown

OK, I got the two difficult leagues out of the way. Now that I reread those writeups, they kind of read like stereo instructions. So even if you had no idea what was going on, you should be able to hook up your iPod to some awesome subwoofers right about now.

To the MRL…

1. Serrano (9-0, 4-0)
I can probably write this in less than 10 words, but I won’t. Serrano is in the playoffs and has clinched the No. 1 seed with last week’s 14-0 win over Hesperia. That was 19 words, not counting the first sentence.

2. Hesperia (7-1, 2-1)
The Scorpions have already punched a ticket to the Eastern Division playoffs. If they defeat Rim tonight, Hesperia will be the No. 2 seed, but if they lose, they’ll be the No. 3. That was even shorter.

3. Rim of the World (6-2, 1-1)
This is where it might get somewhat complicated. If Rim defeats Hesperia tonight, it will clinch a playoff berth and grab the No. 2 seed. However, if it loses, a whole bunch of things could happen. With a loss and a Sultana win against Apple Valley, Rim would be tied with Sultana for third and need a coin flip to decide the playoff representative, as the Sultana game was the one canceled by the fires. If it loses that flip though, Rim, with a 6-3 record, would have a great shot of grabbing the division’s at-large berth. If Apple Valley wins, then Rim clinches and is the No. 3 seed from the MRL.

4. Sultana (4-4, 0-2)
Sultana pretty much has to win Friday against Apple Valley to have any shot. The Sultans would prefer Rim to lose and go to a coin flip, but even if Rim wins, a win over Apple Valley would put Sultana in good position to rise up and grab the at-large bid. It won the at-large last year and could easily do it again.

5. Apple Valley (5-4, 0-3)
The Sun Devils have had a rough go of it lately and are eliminated from getting one of the MRL’s three seeds, but aren’t dead by any means. They obviously have to take down Sultana to have any claim for anything, but a win over the Sultans puts the Sun Devils 6-4 overall. Coming from the brutally-tough MRL and with the talent they possess, the Sun Devils would have as good of claim as any for the at-large berth.
