REV fivesome inks letters of intent

Sitting in the Redlands East Valley gym right now after attending the Wildcats’ National Signing Day ceremony, which saw DE Andrew Hudson sign with Washington, QB Tyler Shreve ink with Utah, OL David Peterson sign with San Jose State and RB A.J. Fernandez and LB Dillon Curley sign with Northwestern College out of the NAIA.

This has become a tradition at REV, as seemingly every year sees kids going off to Division I colleges.

“It’s a testament to the program and the kids we have in the program,” REV coach Kurt Bruich said. “To get to this level, not only do you have to have the skills on the field, but the grades off it. There are a lot of kids in this area who could go to Division I schools if they had better grades.”

Hudson became the fourth Wildcat since 2007 to sign with Washington. But he’s the first to sign under new coach Steve Sarkisian, something that he pointed out this morning.

“It’s a whole new staff at Washington and I can’t wait to help them get back to the top,” Hudson said. “I really think I can come in and play early, so I’m excited.”

Shreve, a three-year starter at REV, chose Utah late in the process after previously committing to Colorado State. It was an easy decision to make for the 6-foot-4 quarterback, as Utah’s recent success and spread offense were draws for Shreve.

“I feel like I can go there and pick things up right away,” Shreve said. “When I committed to Colorado State I felt good about it at the time, but I had to see what Utah had. Once I went up there, I knew it was for me.”

Utah will play San Jose State next year, meaning Shreve can reunite with Peterson, another three-year starter for the Wildcats. That’s just a bonus on what was an exciting morning for the offensive lineman.

“Usually I’m dying when I get out of bed, but today I jumped right up and was ready to go,” Peterson said. “I feel so relieved – I’ve been looking forward to this day for a long time.”

Now it’s time to hit the road and battle traffic to get to Colton, where Derrick Malone and Alejandro Maldonado will sign with Oregon at 8:30.
