Florida county considering cutting high school sports

The problems that were highlighted by Referendum E at the Fontana Unified School District’s School Board meeting last Tuesday aren’t restricted to Southern California apparently, as Duval County in Florida is seriously considering taking that approach to combat a $97 million deficit.

Duval County isn’t exactly a small county as far as population, as it encompasses the city of Jacksonville and has produced hundreds of Division I athletes over the years. Needless to say, the uproar is huge, as evidenced by this blog entry at jacksonville.com. Another take on the situation can be read here. It will be interesting to see if Duval County will do what the FUSD thankfully reconsidered doing.
