Citrus Valley girls swimming comes up just short of CIF title

The Citrus Valley girls swimming team nearly won the CIF-SS Division 4 team title on Friday, but came up just short

and ended up finishing third.
Citrus Valley led entering the final race, the 400 freestyle relay. But because the Blackhawks’ relay team was in the consolation and not the championship heat, Citrus Valley was passed up by both Pasadena La Salle (the team champion) and Calabasas Viewpoint.
The Citrus Valley girls took home the championship in each of the first two relays: the 200 medley relay (Kahiwa Hollands, Jessica Ramos, Kailee Mora and Natasha Fares in 1:52.03) and the 200 freestyle relay (Megan Beckham, Hollands, Fares and Mora in 1:43.34).
“Considering we’re really just in our third year of existence, I am so proud of all our swimmers and felt it was a very solid showing,” Citrus Valley coach Jesse O’Donnell told our reporter, Brian Reed-Baiotto. “We’d have liked to won the CIF championship, but we’re racing against some very solid and experienced competition.”
Other Citrus Valley girls highlights included: Hollands, who was sixth in the 100 freestyle (55.97 seconds) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:02.11) Ramos, who was sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.88), and Julia Zhao who was ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.44).

The Citrus Valley boys had some success, too. Charles Martinez was fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.61).
