Summit worn down by Lee, Redlands in 21-12 loss

Craig Lee won’t arrive at UCLA until next season, but the Redlands High School running back has already faced plenty of college-caliber talent this year.

Thursday night the Terriers took on a defending CIF champion Summit defense with eight returning starters that included multiple Division I prospects, but Lee couldn’t be contained for the second consecutive week as he churned out 148 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a 21-12 victory at Miller High School.

After Lee was held to 80 yards on 20 carries in a season-opening blowout loss to the CIF-SS Inland Division’s No. 2 team last week, Redlands bounced back by pulling away from the defending Eastern Division champions in the second half thanks in large part to its UCLA-committed running back and a stout defensive effort. Rancho Cucamonga, which features at least four defensive players with multiple scholarship offers, handed Redlands a 40-17 loss last week but Terriers coach Jim Walker knew his team gave the Cougars plenty of assists.

Grand Terrace getting set for first-ever game

It will be a big deal Friday night, when Grand Terrace hosts Riverside Notre Dame in the first game ever for Grand Terrace. Game time is 7 p.m. at Grand Terrace High School. It’s being dubbed “Clash of the TItans” since both teams have the Titans nickname.

KTLA is supposed to be out there. A special commemorative coin will be used for the pregame flip. The Sheriff’s Department will have a flyover.

REV searching for Week 4 game

This week, Redlands East Valley’s football Week 4 opponent, Temecula Rancho Christian, cancelled the varsity portion of its football program.

That left the Wildcats scrambling for a replacement. It is fairly unlikely one will be found.

Corona Santiago is another school that lost a game scheduled against Rancho Christian. Santiago is hoping to move its scheduled game against Upland from Week 4 to Week 5 to allow REV and Santiago to play each other Week 4 and make up the game both teams missed. That seems unlikely since the Upland-Santiago game is an Upland home game and Upland needs to agree to it.

Rancho Christian cancelled its varsity schedule after losing its first game 43-6 to Whittier La Serna last Friday. Rancho Christian had only 13 players and four were hurt in the game.

More county league predictions

I was able to post the full football previews of the Sunkist League and Citrus Belt League in other blog posts, but it doesn’t look like I will be able to post all of the other leagues.

Sunkist and CBL final standings predictions are at the bottom of those previews.

Here are the predictions for some other area leagues:

San Andreas

Sunkist League preview and predictions

By Clay Fowler Staff Writer
The resumes in the new Sunkist League include a 2011 CIF championship, a 2010 CIF championship, 11 consecutive league titles and even a mythical national championship.
There is no shortage of winning pedigree, but there are only so many wins to go around now that Colton, Fontana and Grand Terrace have joined Summit, Kaiser and Bloomington this year.

Citrus Belt League preview and predictions

By Pete Marshall Staff Writer
Redlands East Valley High School has won three consecutive Citrus Belt League football titles. Coach Kurt Bruich wants to win a fourth in a row, but he doesn’t want it to be easy.
“It’s exciting (this year), because there’s no easy games,” he said. “You’re going to have to prepare every week in the CBL. In the past, sometimes we’d have to go ones versus ones (in practice) to get some competition.”
The league has a new look in 2012, with Fontana, which hadn’t won more than one league game since 2003, leaving for the Sunkist League.
In its place is a Cajon program that was a perennial league title contender in the San Andreas League. Cajon finished in the top two in league each of the last four seasons.
It should make for a more competitive league from top to bottom.
