Los Osos comes up short in girls volleyball final

In a battle of unseeded teams, Riverside King downed Los Osos 25-19, 25-13, 22-25, 25-17 in the CIF-SS Division 2AA girls volleyball final on Saturday at Santiago Canyon College

It was the first trip to the finals for either school.

Some statistics:

King’s Kalei Greeley had 29 kills, 5 errors in 55 attempts, for a .436 hitting percentage and had 23 digs. Jessica Chase had 16 kills and Tiana Barnett had 56 assists.

Ashten Smith-Gooden led Los Osos with 15 kills and 12 digs, Ashley Kaylor and Jenna Willis had 10 kills apiece and Natalie Creekmur had 15 digs.

To show what kind of a quality match it was, Los Osos hit at a .216 clip, not a bad number. But King hit at a .319 percentage, including .484 and .522 in the first two sets, respectively.

Rim of the World girls volleyball wins CIF Division 3AA title

Rim of the World may have been nervous in the finals the last two years when the Scots lost, but this time they were calm in the face of pressure.

Top-seeded Rim captured its eighth CIF-SS title in program history and first since 2005 with a 25-17, 25-21, 25-20 victory over Los Angeles Windward on Saturday morning at Santiago Canyon College. Rim is now 8-5 in CIF-SS finals.

Rim hit  .183 for the match, but which was much better than Windward’s .051 clip. Raena Borcuk led with 13 kills, while Alyssa Ybanez had nine. Oksana Ortega was very efficient, with six kills and no errors in 10 attempts. Hailey Jones had 34 assists and nine digs.

Friday’s Prep football scores

Friday’s prep football scores. Interestingly enough, there are exactly three 28-14 scores. There were also two teams that scored at least 40 points and lost.

By the way, I will be at the Rim of the World (9 a.m.) and Los Osos (2:15) girls volleyball championship matches on Saturday and tweeting from there, www.twitter.com/PeteMarshallLaw
