An early look at Week 0 prep football games

I will post Week 0 predictions on this blog next week, but I thought I’d give some early thoughts as to some intriguing matchups for Week 0.
Some of the matchups for Friday 8/29

Bellerose at Arrowhead Christian
Bellerose is a school from St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. From what I can tell they were 4-5 last year. Looks like maybe the school is bigger than ACA, but I have no idea how good the football is. And anyway, it’s under American rules, so how will Bellerose deal with 1 less player, 1 more down, and a shorter and narrower field? It will be interesting.
San Bernardino at Arroyo Valley
With many new leagues this year, this is one of the old rivalries kept alive. In their last year in the same league (for now), San Bernardino beat Arroyo Valley 28-22 in Week 9 of the San Andreas League.
Big Bear at Excelsior at Victor Valley College
Big Bear went 10-3, Excelsior went 8-4 in different small-school divisions last year. They didn’t play last year, so it will be interesting to see how they stack up.
Hart at Chino Hills
Hart won the CIF-SS Northern Division title last year and both teams are in the new, loaded West Valley Division. An early-season measuring stick for both teams.
San Gorgonio at Citrus Valley
San G is loaded this year, and is the favorite in the San Andreas League. Citrus Valley is new to the Citrus Belt League and wants to prove it can compete. On paper, this is San G’s easiest game of the season, but the Spartans can’t afford to get  caught looking ahead.
Etiwanda vs. Summit at Miller HS
Etiwanda is supposed to be really, really good, possibly challenging Upland and Rancho Cucamonga in the Baseline League. Summit has a new head coach and hopes to  get back on track after a subpar season last year. This game has become a local rivalry as Summit is the closest school to Etiwanda.
Norte Vista at Grand Terrace
Ryan Smalls wasn’t officially named Grand Terrace’s coach until earlier this month. How will his team fare against a team that went to the CIF-SS Eastern Division finals last year.
Roosevelt at Pomona
Former Summit coach Tony Barile, now at Roosevelt, takes on a Pomona team that is on the upswing and looking to make a deep playoff run.
Redlands at Corona Santiago
Redlands will have its hands full facing Santiago and Alabama-bound QB Blake Barnett.
