Aaryon Green’s injury is a blow to Eisenhower girls basketball

Eisenhower’s Aaryon Green (No. 13), against Cajon earlier this season.

The Eisenhower girls’ promising CIF-SS hopes were dealt a blow with the season-ending knee injury to star  Long Beach State-bound senior 6-foot-2 forward/center Aaryon Green. Green suffered the injury in the opening minutes of last week’s 38-32 win over Perris. Eisenhower, seeded third hosts Walnut in the second round of the 2AA playoffs tonight (Wednesday).

Coach Monique Marquez said Green had only “gone up and down the floor a couple of times” when she suffered the knee injury, which is believed to be an ACL injury. She has not yet undergone an MRI so it is not known if surgery will definitely be required, but she is definitely done for the season.

“Hopefully she can be healthy and come back ready to play at Long Beach State next year,” Marquez said.

Marquez said Green is the second Eisenhower player to suffer an ACL injury this season. Senior guard Kennedie Merriett suffered the injury early in the season, was able to rehab, worked her way back to  playing and delayed surgery until after the season. But for Green, even if she delayed surgery, she is not expected to be able to be back this season.
