Ailing player puts damper on Oak Hills win

When Oak Hills defeated Apple Valley 37-7 in the Mojave River League opener Friday, there was reason for initial celebration. But that celebration turned to concern shortly after the game.
Oak Hills retreated to the south end zone as the coaches met with the players after the game as usual. After that, players and coaches began to disperse.
Junior Aaren Villella, a backup linebacker, stopped on the field, sat on the ground, then laid down.
With trainers already leaving the stadium, they had to be called back to tend to Villella.
He complained of being “short of breath, dizzy,” said coach Artie Allen, who believed Villella played a little, late in the game.
Allen said Villella also complained of chest pains as well. He was told by Villella’s parents that their son had previously had a heart-related procedure and that this was likely related to that procedure.
Villella was eventually taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center, then later to a Kaiser facility to have tests done.
Allen said Villella was not back at Oak Hills as of Wednesday.
“I’ve never dealt with anything like this before,” Allen said. “We just want him to feel better and get back to school. We’re not even talking about him playing.”

Week 5 high school football predictions ugly or not

You’d think I’d be getting better at this, but apparently I’m not. I only went 20-12 in Week 4, my worst week of the season, bringing my season record to 130-42-1, with 2 margins exactly right. This week, I’ll put the blindfold on again and throw the darts at the schedule and see how I do.

Cajon’s epic 2-point conversion fail

It meant nothing to the final outcome, but Cajon failed on a 2-point conversion on the final touchdown in last week’s 46-6 win over Miller and coach Nick Rogers says, “I can laugh about it now.”

Here’s the situation. Cajon goes for 2 after every touchdown because they don’t have a placekicker.
On this situation, the Cowboys tried a fade to the corner of the end zone, pass was completed, but offensive pass interference was called. Cajon went back to the same play and again, the pass was completed but offensive pass interference was called, butting the ball back to the 33 now. Rogers was visibly upset, and had to talk the officials out of getting an unsportsmanlike conduct call against him, which would have pushed the ball back to the 48. As it was, it was on the 33 and at that point, Rogers threw up his hands and ordered quarterback Jayden Daniels to take a knee.
I’ve never heard that happening before. I’ve seen a team taking a knee in the third quarter of a game. Teams take knees on kickoff returns or interception returns all the time. But on a two-point conversion? And that turned out to be the only conversion that Cajon failed on, in six touchdowns.
