San Gorgonio’s Nate Meadors piling up Pac-12 offers

The college offers are coming fast and furious for San Gorgonio senior Nate Meadors.
Meadors, the star quarterback, is being recruited primarily as a defensive back.
While he made a trip to Boise State last weekend, he has also now received offers from five Pac-12 schools, all in the last few days: UCLA, Cal, Washington State, Washington and the one he got just on Wednesday, Colorado.
He’s also got offers from Nevada, San Diego State and UC Davis and more are likely to follow.
“Honestly, I think it’s great for the kid,” said San Gorgonio coach Ron Gueringer, who played at UCLA himself. “It’s better late than never. This was something I said early, that he’s a Pac-12 guy. They (recruiters) did some hemming and hawing. Nate’s done all the work. He’s had a fantastic senior year.”
The vast majority of Meadors’ game tape is at quarterback, but Gueringer knows that’s not a problem.
“They all just want to see his athleticism on the field,” he said. “When you play quarterback for us, you have an opportunity to shine. He’s a decision-maker.”
Gueringer said that some of the recruiters, who have since offered Meadors admitted to Gueringer they made a mistake when they didn’t initially believe Gueringer’s claim that Meadors was a Pac-12 talent.

In 2014, how San Gorgonio football is like Kaiser baseball

Above, San Gorgonio’s Malik James (7) and Nate Meadors (5) celebrate after a touchdown in a 55-7 win over Cajon in the first round of the CIF-SS Inland Division playoffs on Friday.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and meaning to write about the similarities between San Gorgonio’s 2014 football team and the Kaiser baseball team last spring.
I’m not trying to say that I think San Gorgonio will come up short of a CIF-SS championship, like Kaiser did last spring.
But stay with me:
Both teams have been good programs for the last few years, but Kaiser’s baseball class of 2014 and San Gorgonio’s class of 2015 have been their best classes in years: starters as sophomores, Division I talents by their senior seasons.
Both aren’t helped by their league, which they dominated, San Gorgonio outscored San Andreas League opponents by a 327-13 score. Kaiser baseball outscored Sunkist League opponents 155-17.
Both teams upgraded their nonleague schedules to better prepare them for the playoffs.
Both teams are/were good but won’t be nearly as good next year.
Now the difference is that while Kaiser had the difficult task of being the favorite/No. 1 seed in the CIF-SS playoffs, San Gorgonio, 9-1 entering the playoffs, isn’t even seeded. And the Spartans are in a division that they were promoted to presumably because the Spartans made the CIF-SS semifinals last year and new SAL teams Rim of the World and Jurupa Hills won CIF-SS titles in lower divisions the last two years.San Gorgonio doesn’t want to duplicate what Kaiser did in the spring: lose before winning a CIF-SS title, and I’m not saying that they will. But regardless of whether they win or lose, San Gorgonio’s football class of 2015 should be appreciated much like Kaiser’s baseball class of 2014, as a remarkable group with bright futures in college.

San Gorgonio Spartans quarterback Nate Meadors received a scholarship offer from the UCLA Bruins football program Nov. 16.

It is his 10th offer during the 2014 football season.

“I have received an offer (from UCLA),” Meadors confirmed. “I am not committing anywhere, just yet though.”

The offer from the Bruins was not just any offer to Meadors.

“It is my dream school,” he explained. “It means a lot to receive the offer and that the hard work is paying off.”

Until today, UCLA had been one of two programs that Meadors had a strong interest in, along with Stanford University, despite not having an offer from either program.

Stanford appears off the radar for Meadors at this point in the recruiting process, but the offer from UCLA has really heated things up within the PAC-12 conference.

The Bruins join Cal, Washington, Arizona State and Washington State as teams within the conference that have made an offer to Meadors.

He is being recruited as an athlete by most schools that hope he could fill the void of several different positions depending on a team’s needs.

The offer from the Bruins comes just one day after he took his first official recruiting visit to Boise State University in Idaho. He returned to San Bernardino tonight from the visit and it was in the airport that he received the offer from UCLA.

Meadors will rejoin the Spartans as they prepare throughout the upcoming week for a second round playoff game against Riverside Poly on Friday.
