Big Bear’s Caleb Webb signs with University of Portland

The two-time All-Sun Cross Country Runner of the year and two-time CIF State cross country champion has decided where he will run in college.
Big Bear senior Caleb Webb signed his National Letter of Intent last week to run at the University of Portland.
“It’s a smaller school and I come from a small town,” Webb said. “It felt like the right place. It’s nice to get this off my back.”
Webb said he was deciding between Portland and Colorado as to where he would sign.
“Caleb may be the most significant recruit we have ever signed,” Portland coach Rob Conner in a press release. “He is a tremendous student and extremely serious runner. Very few high school runners are ready to make an impact at the college level as freshmen but Caleb is the kind of talent that will. I couldn’t be more excited to have him joining us. … His range is incredible but we think he will lean toward the longer distances,”
Webb recently set a school record by running a time of 8 minutes, 52.17 seconds in the 3200 meters, surpassing the record of 8:55 set by Olympic marathoner and fellow Big Bear native Ryan Hall.

Citrus Belt League track and field results

This should be all the CIF-SS qualifiers from Thursday’s Citrus Belt League track finals. I believe Yucaipa, Miller and Cajon are Division 1 and Redlands, Redlands East Valley and Eisenhower are D2. Those with lines through them did not make qualifying mark for their division. I believe in only one event, the girls high jump, did a fourth-place finisher qualify for CIF-SS prelims.

Plenty of county athletes advance at D2 track prelims

It was quite a day for plenty of San Bernardino County athletes at the CIF-SS Division 2 track and field prelims on Saturday at Moorpark High School. The top nine in most events qualified for the CIF-SS FInals, which will be next Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College.

Here is a list of all the county D2 qualifiers, organized by school:

CBL track finals results

As requested by several people, here are the Citrus Belt League Track and Field Finals Results from Redlands High on Thursday.
I have listed all of the times and marks I know qualify for CIF. Winners automatically qualify, 2nd and 3rd if they meet standard and at-large if they meet another standard.
I don’t know what division each school is in, so I’m going with the Division 1 standard to determine who qualifies for the CIF-SS Prelims among 2nd and 3rd place finishers.

The “U.S. Top 100 Elite Performances” according to dyestatcal.com, are:
Redlands’ Margaux Jones in the 100 meters (11.82 seconds) and in the long jump (19-7, in the prelims, although her 19-2 in the finals also was “elite”). REV’s Connor Vigil ran a 1:53.83 time in the 800 meters, although that was in the Prelims and he ran slower in the finals. Likewise for Redlands’ Walter Jones, who went 24-5 1/2 in the long jump prelims, which was elite. His finals mark was not considered “elite.”

All of the below should be CIF qualifiers:
Event 1 GIRLS 4×100 Meter Relay

Maldonado, Hunter-Simms, Cajon girls set records at SAL track finals

There were some great performances on Thursday at the San Andreas League track finals at San Gorgonio.
Pacific’s Quincy Ross (100 and 200), San Gorgonio’s Ryan Rittenhouse (1600 and 3200) and San Gorgonio’s Ryan Hunter-Simms (shot and discus) each won multiple individual events on the boys side. My apologies to Quincy Ross, who was not mentioned in my story that is in Friday’s paper. I think it was at least initially announced that Ross did not win one of those two races, but once I looked at the results (too late) I realized he’s listed as winning both.
On the girls side, Cajon’s Haley Sanner (100 hurdles and 300 hurdles) and Ayana Gales (long jump and triple jump) as well as Pacific’s Gabriela Maldonado (800, 1600, and 3200) took home multiple events.
Hunter-Simms set a new
