San Bernardino’s Alex Mattison picks Boise State

I’m glad things are working out for Alex Mattison. He’s a great kid, who works hard and stayed at San Bernardino even thought many people thought he wouldn’t get scholarship offers unless he transferred to another school.
Last weekend, he gave a verbal commitment to go to Boise State to play football. He intends to sign on National Signing Day Feb. 3.
“I really had a good relationship with coach (Lee) Marks,” Mattison said of Boise State’s running back coach who recruited him. “He was there from the beginning talking to me.”
Mattison said he was the only recruit there last weekend and said he got to see a lot of things he might not normally have seen because he got individual attention.
“It’s a big campus, but not too big,” Mattison said. “And the blue turf is cool.”
Mattison, a two-time first-team all-Sun running back, is 6-feet, 200 pounds. As a senior, he rushed 151 times for 2,057 yards and 22 touchdowns in 10 games. He also led the team with 14 receptions, totalling 296 yards and three touchdowns. As a junior, he had 2,436 yards of total offense and 28 touchdowns in 10 games as a junior.
“I think their style suits me,” Mattison said of Boise State. “And I like that a lot of their coaches went to Boise. They’re really committed to the program.”
According to rivals.com, Mattison had scholarship offers from several schools including Arizona State, Washington and Washington State from the Pac-12.

San Bernardino High’s Alexander Mattison weighs college options

San Bernardino High’s Alexander Mattison made a name for himself rushing for a county-leading 2,017 yards last season as a junior and continued to draw the eyes of college scouts at various offseason football camps.

While the Cardinals’ faithful can expect another solid performance from the running back as he conclude his high school career. It will be up to opposing defenses, especially from

the Mountain Valley League, to stand in his way and try to stop him.

But the elephant in the room is what will be next for Mattison following his senior year.

Mattison has several scholarship offers which include Pac-12 programs, according to head coach Jeff Imbriani, but it is not a guarantee that the running back will play in the conference.

The senior confirmed that Boise State, Washington and Arizona State are at the top of his list.

“Out of my offers right now those are the most communicative and interesting to me,” said Mattison.

He also mentioned Washington State as a program that completes his top four at the moment.

San Bernardino High wrestling continues Mountain Valley League success

San Bernardino’s Isiah Ferrera was named the lower weight MVP of the Mountain Valley League and was one of the Cardinals’ four individual wrestlers to win a league title in their respective weight classes.
San Bernardino CardinalsMikey Ornelas (115 lbs), Aldo Barragan (120 lbs) and Alexander Mattison (195 lbs) were the others to win individual titles for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals coach Mark Clark was also named the league’s coach of the year.
Last week, the Cardinals won its first team league title in over 30 years and competed its first undefeated season in 50 years.
San Bernardino will compete in the CIF Duals on Feb. 7.
