Update on the condition of Redlands coach Mike Mauger

Doctors were able to close up the abdomen of Redlands football coach Mike Mauger Tuesday night, according to the team’s Facebook page.

The update also stated that the odds of survival have increased and the removal of the breathing tube will be the next part of the recovery process for Mauger.

“So thankful for the Lord’s blessings and for all of your prayers,” Mike’s wife Robin is quoted as saying in the update. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”

Mauger, who has been a member of the Redlands High community for 25-years, has been in the hospital for 14 days after he was rushed to the hospital on June 3 from the high school for emergency aorta surgery.

REV’s Khris Vaughn lands an offer with the Washington Huskies

Redlands East Valley wide receiver Khris Vaughn landed an offer from the Washington Huskies, according to head coach Kurt Bruich.

According to Rivals.com, Vaughn is a 3-star recruit with offers from Boise State, Eastern Washington, UC Davis and Northern Arizona.

Vaughn will be entering his senior season with the Wildcats, after the team won the CIF State Championship for Division 2.

During his junior season, Vaughn had 1,270 receiving yards with 16 touchdowns on 65 receptions in 16 games played. Vaughn also contributed on special teams as the Wildcats’ kick returner. He had 275 return yards on the season, according to Maxpreps.

UPDATE: Redlands High coach having emergency aorta surgery

Mike Mauger, who is been a teacher and coach at Redlands High, needed emergency aorta surgery today, according to a tweet from head football coach Jim Walker.

Members of the Redlands High School community has also taken to Twitter asking for positive thoughts during this time using the hashtag, #PrayForMauger.

A member of the team stated that the players were informed by Walker of the news during their sixth period class.

 

UPDATE:

At 8:12 p.m. Jim Walker tweeted an update on the condition of Mauger.

He stated that Mauger was out of surgery, which took over three hours as an aorta aneurysm needed to be repaired with a stint. He also mentioned that the linebacker coach is listed in critical condition.

June 4 (8:54 p.m.) UPDATE:

Mauger has been moved to cardiac care unit and placed in induced coma, according to Walker, who tweeted the update. He also stated that more surgery may be needed for Mauger tomorrow.

Redlands East Valley football received CIF State Championship Rings

The members of the 2014 CIF State Championship football team at Redlands East Valley High School received it’s rings this weekend.

REV defeated Concord Clayton Valley Charter, 34-33, in the CIF State Bowl Game on Dec. 20 in the StubHub Center.

It was the first state football championship for the Wildcats.

Fontana Summit High football player Damian Alloway will make his verbal commitment at the Athletic Republic in Ontario on Monday.

Alloway, who is a junior for the Skyhawks, confirmed that he will decide between Cal, UCLA and Oregon State.

Despite making his commitment, he plans to make all his official and unofficial visits to California campuses this spring.

It was confirmed earlier in the week that Lokeni Toailoa of Carter High was going to make his verbal commitment at the same location.

Rialto Carter High linebacker Lokeni Toailoa has confirmed that he will make his verbal commitment on March 23 at the Athletic Republic in Ontario.

Toailoa has several offers but took to Twitter on Saturday to announce his list of seven schools he has interest in.

Summit Skyhawks sophomore RB Stephen Carr has been offered by the USC Trojans football program.

Carr received his first offer from the Washington Huskies followed by the Colorado Buffaloes.

Aside from playing football for the Skyhawks, he also ran for the track team as a freshman.

Shareece Wright wants to have his fellow Colton HS alums and NFL players Jimmy Smith and Allen Bradford, to speak to schools as well. As for Wright, he said he will likely not be back with the Chargers when he becomes a free agent in March. He said he would look at states without a state income tax, such as Florida, or Texas when deciding where to sign, because money goes farther there.
