Teammates from the basketball team remembered the leadership skills of Tasby, who was pencilled as the starting center for the Pirate varsity team in January.
"He wasn't a gang-banger," said Chris Clayton, a 12th-grader and forward. "He worked really hard."Known affectionately as "LT," Tasby would challenge other players to skill competitions. He once bet a player $5 he could dunk a basketball wearing cleats. "Bet five" was his catchphrase, players said.
