Board of Education member Marlene Canter has thrown her support behind Mike Stryer in his bid to replace her in next month's election.
Canter issued a statement this morning:
After careful deliberation, I have concluded that Mike Stryer is the best choice to represent the students and families of the 4th LAUSD Board District. His background in business and education will give him the independence and vision to put students first and to improve our schools.
Stryer is running against Steve Zimmer; both are LAUSD high school teachers. They're seeking to represent District 4, which stretches from Westchester into Hollywood and Woodland Hills.
Stryer also has the backing of Westside City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, state Sen. Fran Pavley and the L.A. Area Chamber of Commerce. The Breeze, the Daily News and the L.A. Times have endorsed him.
Zimmer has gotten endorsements from more of the players in LAUSD politics: L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, former Mayor Richard Riordan, a cast of other politicians, charter advocates, United Teachers Los Angeles and several other unions including the County Fed.
