*UPDATE: The Torrance Unified board has approved a new principal for North High.
North High Principal Grant Litfin works his last day for Torrance Unified today, school district officials said. He's taken the top job at Los Alamitos High in Orange County.
Litfin leaves after just two years as North High's principal. He was previously assistant principal at South High, assistant principal at Lynn and Magruder middle schools, and a teacher at Magruder.
The job posting for the principal slot at North High was posted last week. Applications are due July 13, and district officials say the post will be filled before the 2009-10 school year begins Sept. 10.

"Dr. Litfin is our new Principal at LOSAL, and one thing I just love about him is that he is as immature as the rest of us." NOT A REAL LOSAL STUDENT...JUST FOR SOME COMEDIC RELIEF.
Looks like Litfin is writing his own comments now. Way to go, boy!
mr. litfins our new principal here and hes a real cool guy. everyone knows experience is important but thats not everything, right? look at obama. litfins really doing a great job. he came to 1 of our cross country meets w/ his family to cheer us on, no one does that; he stayed w/ the team until 9pm or so and im sure everyone has more respect for him for doing that. im glad that hes at los al and not working for you ppl who do nothing but talk bad about him
iam a student at los al and i think dr. litfin is doing a fabulous job, your all jealous of him or something to make bad remarks
A good man, good role model and a good man to work with and for. Good luck.
MY BET: The LosAl school board and superintendent must have been heavily intoxicated the day they interviewed Grant Litfin, as well as the day they offered him a contract.
MY BET: LosAl will eat him alive. He won't last long there. He will come begging back to Torrance, or to some other school district. He may last a full year--maybe....
To the person who supports "Grant," well let me say this: I am a member of the North staff, and in a letter that Grant sent us back in the summer of 2007, before he started his two-year tenure at North High, he wrote, "I like the North end of town. It reminds me of home--Minnesota." Well, I guess he wanted that hometown, humble feel for just two years. Best of luck, Grant, in that pishy posh Los Alamitos hometown feel.
Grant left North because he thought he might not have a job as a Principal the following year. He was given a pink slip, as were all administrators in Torrance Unified. Keep in mind, also, that he was at the bottom of the totem pole among all high school principals in TUSD. So, he would have been the first to get cut. As almost all of us would do, he had to look for work or face a severe salary and position cut. He did have a family to think of and care about, after all, folks. Wouldn't we all?
You do not need to be a teacher for long, or even a teacher at all, to be an outstanding school administrator. Look at some coaches. Some have not even ever played the sport that they coach, but are successful coaches. Grant was a great manager at North. He will be missed.
Grant was an awesome Principal. When the gym floor had to be re-done, Grant came in during Spring Break, was obviously not paid, and personally worked on the gym with others. He would actively volunteer in many activities to raise money for the school. He tried his best to keep as many teachers as possible on staff, and further made sure that those teachers who were not laid-off were the best for the students. He was not trying to please everyone, but rather help everyone. You go, Grant!
Must have had some connection within Torrance school district to move up as fast as he did. Or, it's probably because he's white. Hate to use the race card, but much of the evidence in TUSD points in that direction. Overall, he did okay but TUSD should have gone with someone else, and they had at least two other, highly-competent people to choose from (one was, at least, white) when they were picking a new principal back in 2007.
Takes credit for everything. Is not always honest. But, he is a great writer. His speaking abilities are okay. His leadership style is basically to please everyone. It is surprising that LosAl Unified actually hired him, but, then again, it's Grant. Good luck and may you use the mistakes and shortcomings of your past to do an outstanding job at LosAl.
just what you need? another administrator with very little classroom experience. who's the winner and who's the loser?
Wow you guys are really mean. You guys think he did such a bad job but I doubt any of you will do a better job and become principal...The man did his best and i thank him for that.
Any other teacher out there with fewer than 3 years in the classroom? The District needs a new Golden Boy.
Almost everyone on campus and in the community knew he would be a short-timer. TUSD had the opportunity to appoint a long-time North High teacher/administrator as its principal but went with someone whose age is less than some of the staff's teaching experience. I hope the North area starts to speak up and not allow the District and its Board to treat North like a forgotten step-child.
Good bye and good riddance. His classroom experience is less than five years, and his management is lack-luster to say the least. Let the OC deal with him!
Good riddance
