Not a great prescription...
Proposed state budget cuts are threatening services at local medical clinics and the future of adult day care centers in the area.
After talking Friday to opponents of such cuts, one theme emerged:
It's actually more of an irony than a theme: As California cuts back on Medi-Cal reimbursements and slashes services, the Obama administration is looking to expand medical care to more people.
Let me get this straight: Fewer people will have services in California if these cuts take place. The costs of treating those uninsured in local emergency rooms will be borne by the taxpayer, who will ultimately have to foot the bill for the uninsured. And more people will be sicker because of lack of care.
Doesn't sound like a prescription for a solid system of medical care to me.
Worse yet, we'll be right back in this situation next year, and the year after, figuring out how to cut vital services to people.
True, there's a whole other side to the issue -- you've got to cut somewhere.
But gee wiz, the more they cut, the better Obama's plan looks.
