La Puente, Bassett or Valinda (part 3)

| | Comments (2) |

After a while this gets a little frustrating.... City officials in La Puente are a little ticked that we indicated the shooting of a woman somewhere near the 605 and Valley Boulevard occurred in La Puente.
Sheriff's officials have corrected our geography once again. They say this happened in Bassett, an unincorporated portion of Eastern Los Angeles County.
Just last week we received this email on the very same topic.

Bassett and Valinda are mangeld around the city of La Puente and most of the residents don't know where the borders are. Speaking of borders, when you enter the city of La Puente don't get confused and think that you're entering Tijuana. What you'll see is a filthy town with every business ending in eria, example Taqueria, Laundaria, zapateria, shoeria, cacaeria, diarheaeria. O.K. may be not the last two but you get the picture. You can't make a complaint to the community preservation officer without it getting leaked out to the people your complaining about. Talking about community preservation offficer. If you call and complain about people sleeping in cars and renting space not rooms but space in homes you will be tolds that everyone needs someplace to stay. Well, in the City of La Puente municipal code that is not allowed. Talking about the municipal code the City of La Puente is not enforcing their own laws. Talking about enforcing the law. An object was thrown at my vehicle and smashed into the window. I followed the person who did this while calling the Sheriff. I gave the license number and was parked 20 feet from the vehicle, I was told that they were to busy to come out. Gee, that's funny because you never see any negative stories in the paper regarding La Puente.

The city of La Puente has changed over the years and it hasn't been positive. The majority of businessess are hispanic. I must say one of my gripes is that the only major grocery store here in La Puente, the Big Saver which has a green sombero hat over the B in Big Saver pipes in mexican music over the loud speakers in the market and the employees will only speak spanish to the customers. The majority of the items in the market are ethnic. I didn't feel like I was in America when I was in that market. The people who run that store ran me out. They let me know I was not welcomed. The store sells mostly items that are wrapped in packaging with spanish labels. That store caters to only the Spanish speaking people. Yes I believe that people are renting out space in this city. Where I live there are apartment's with people on welfare living in them and they are not renting out rooms but actually renting a space on their floors for workers to sleep. This section of street is crowed with cars 24 hours a day. It's has if there was a constant party going on. People all day long coming and going. The women in the apartments are not married to their childrens father so that they can collect welfare for themselves and the kids while the so called husband is living there with them. Some of these fathers have a full time job. And these woman are proud to say "We know how to work the system." I have brought this to the attention of the City of La Puente and nothing has been done to clean this mess up. There are drug dealings, drive by shooting on this block but on one side of the street only where these apartment are and this has been going on for years. You can't find the the story in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune the next day. How much pull does the city of La Puente have to keep the crime hushed? We have had so many vandals breaking into the homes on this street and nothing is being done about it and it has been getting worst. The officers that came out suggest that we move because it's only getting worst. They consider this part of La Puente The Slums.
As soon as we can get rid of these Section 8 housing facilitites this area would clean up fast and our neigborhood would once again be safe. The owners of these apartments are not following the municiple code of La Puente. And La Puente is not enforcing the law on the owners of these crime infested housing units. We need a new City Manager and new Council members and a new Mayor for this city that are didicated to turn this city into a safe, clean place. The city of La Puente is in America let's treat that way.
