Maria Hicks case notes
More loose ends:
The John and Ken Show on KFI devoted their 5:30 p.m. segment to the case Wednesday. Callers were asked to talk about times they attempted to stop a crime in their neighborhood. I dont' remember any of the callers saying they had suffered consequences from intervening. John Kobylt was on vacation in Alaska, so it was up to Ken Chiampou to field the three or four callers.
Bill Handel's "Handel on the News" show at 6 a.m. Thursday briefly mentioned the story. That's probably because the Times ran the Hicks story on its front page Thursday ...
... Which is pretty sad, considering Hicks died Monday, after being shot Friday night. We've been on top of it since then.
There is an overall perception by many following the case that outrage about the Hicks murder is somewhat muted.
I couldn't help but think about the Paul Whitehead case, where a Bassett man was shot outside his parents' home in 2005 when he confronted a group of taggers.
I don't remember that getting a lot of play either, but I wasn't here in 2005 so my memory could be faulty.
I any event, that case didn't get solved as quickly as the Hicks murder, but detectives believe that Paul Salazar, who was shot to death in Valinda in July was involved. Another man remains at large.
