LASO detectives believe that Paul Salazar, of Valinda might have been involved in the shooting death of "good neighbor" Robert Whitehead, of Bassett. Whitehead confronted taggers spray painting his neighbor's blockwall only to be shot to death back in 2006.
In June Sheriff's Homicide detectives released the above composite drawings of men connected to Whitehead's murder. They think Salazar, a graduate of Bishop Amat High School, was one of these men.

Salazar, aka "Malo" may also have been connected to the "Puente Trece" street gang, officials said. Whatever he is (or was) connected to, the tentacles of the operation reached into (or out of) Soledad State Prison.
Detectives on the Whitehead case visited someone at the prison last week, before coming to the almost certain conclusion that Salazar was linked to the Whitehead case.

I too can testify to Paul Salazar being a very good man. I've known him for 16 years. But lets not sugar coat this... Paul was a gang member.... true... But that's not all he was. He was the hardest working man I know. He went to work everyday of his life. He provided for his kids the best he possibly could. Paul was also a loving son, brother, an awesome father and a great friend. Its a shame that now that he has passed away, he's stands accused and practically convicted of a murder from which he cannot defend himself. Front page of the Tribune almost certainly achieves that judgement. Paul most certainly did not kill an inncocent 40 year old man. To the Whitehead family... I am sorry for your loss... but Paul was not associated with Puente 13. You guys need to get your facts straight. Rest in Peace Brother.

Its not right that you can put the blaime of an unsolved murder on a dead man that is not here to defend himself, Paul Salazar was a great father/brother/son and friend. Its a shame that the system is so lazy that in order to close a case they have to put it on a Dead man that is also a victim as well as Mr Whitehead may they both RIP. Its a shame that the animals that commited these crimes are still out there just waiting for their next chance. So would you please consider retracting your reckless statements made torwards Paul salazar , whom you failed to mention that he worked hard for the IBEW and never missed any days, he went to school 3 days a week, he was the best Father he could be, he left behind 3 beautiful children,he was drug free,he had a big heart and a great sense of humor and that he comes from a very VERY RESPECTFUL family. His only problem was the people that he was consumed by! A TRUE Friend Always RIP Brother...God Bless You...He has been my best friend for 25 years....
