Whittier Daily News reporter Ruby Gonzales put together a nice piece on the rise of the Brown Authority gang in Pico Rivera, which ran in Sunday's paper. The competitor put together a piece of their own that ran today with a look at Brown Authority; it's rise from humble origins, the gangs' ongoing power struggle with Pico Vieja; and ties to the community at large in Pico Rivera.

Wow this is ridiculous. I looked up this Brown Authority gang because I read that a 57 yr old grandmother was killed by some KIDS, some time ago; (yes Kids, because only immature kids would go tagging on walls) and I stumbled upon all these gangs that are proud to be shooting cars down and using violence in the neighborhoods. What I noticed is that most of these comments are written from gang memebers who cannot spell!. I know most of you have children, and your pride overcomes everything, but don't you want your children safe? or raised in a neighborhood they can be proud of? clean and under control? I don't have any kids but I am terrified to have them raised in any of the cities you guys live in. I am a little embarrassed that all of you take pride in tagging. All if not most are mexican on this blog. We are a stereotype! All this is making our cities look bad! I know you all take pride in your gangs and thats fine! I take pride in my race and my city because it is clean. There is tagging, but someone always cleans it up. I'm not trying to bag on anyone, all I am saying is keep our cities clean, so incidents like the shooting on this innocent grandmother won't occur. And come on, cholos, gangmembers, and taggers get enough lip because of all the stereotypes (but we know some fit the description), so lets not have people generalize all mexicans and hispanics because of the tagged up cities. I know many of you worry for your kids future. Keep your cities clean man, at least you can say -you tried to raise your chidren in a clean and safe neighborhood. Peace to you all! Viva La Raza!
