SGVN Channel

This is something we’re trying on the web. The plan is to stream live video from the Town Hall meeting tomorrow. We’ll be using this more and more as another way to deliver news and sports.

UPDATE 5:55 p.m. 02/01/08

We will not be broadcasting live from the event, apparently it is not conducive to that sort of coverage. We will be on hand with video and plan to post it as soon as it is processed.

  1. Hi. I was at the meeting and they said we could find out who owns the Riviera Apt. to try and have the apartments removed as promised us 4 years ago. How?

  2. This apartment building has been nothing but an eyesore in the otherwise family friendly neighborhood. If you drive around the area, you’ll see well maintained single family homes. Growing up in that area, it was always called “Mayflower Village”, not “No Man’s Land” like the press keeps using. We never even drive by the apartment building because of all the shady looking people that live and hang out there. It is clear that the Riviera Apts. do not belong in that area and need to be torn down. We managed to get rid of Mayflower Market a few years ago and now it’s time to do the same with the Riviera Apts. The residents there bring nothing but crime and graffiti to the otherwise quiet area. The walls are always being tagged on the new tract home area, and we know it’s not the residents of Mayflower Village, but the residents of the apts.

  3. Frank, it’s not a Town Hall meeting. It’s the long-schedule MAP Area 2 kickoff party – a neighborhood barbeque with a kid zone and information booths. The gang violence will undoubtedly be a topic of conversation, but discussions will be on a one-to-one basis among neighbors, community members and City officials. It was not designed to be an open forum. MAP is the Monrovia Area Partnership, a neighborhood improvement program that fights crime and blight by bringing increases services, home improvement funding and community building programs to at-risk neighborhoods. It’s important that this event be held to assure the community that these efforts are continuing unabated. But again, it’s not a Town Hall meeting.

  4. Lots of police activity and ambulances all around the park by the YMCA. Anyone know what’s going on.

  5. By the way, I noticed the city web-site said the event tomorrow was at Julian Fisher Park which was located on Almond and Shamrock. I drive by there everyday, the park is actually on Almond and California. It is on the same “block” as the school district office, the pre-school and Canyon Oaks HS. Just wanted to clarify for anyone who didn’t know where it was. The flyer also says it is going to be a sort of party, not a meeting about the gang activity. It has been scheduled for some time, and is not something put together because of the current situation.
