Newsman fired for bad joke

This morning I was reading the Californian, an edition of the North County Times, when a front page (above the fold) correction jumped out at me.

Here's what Romenesko had to say about the bad "joke."

I can appreciate the joke, it is in really bad taste. Something that could have and should have just stayed in the news room. Making it to print you run the risk of someone not getting it and taking it serious.

In the news at least the expectation we get the facts and nothing but. The choice of wording would have been just fine in a snarky op ed piece but not a factual story.

My two bits.
