"We are investigating this with everything we have"
This occurred Friday night in Duarte. I've heard that residents of the area have seen a significant amount of police activity last night and today.
Brian Day wrote the story:
DUARTE - A man was wounded in a possibly gang-related shooting Friday in a residential neighborhood, officials said.
The incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Bloomdale Street, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Mark Flores.
The victim was described as a black man about 25 years old, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Jeff Myers.
The wounded man was sitting on the curb when rescuers arrived, Myers said, and the injury did not appear to be life-threatening.
Two Latino men with shaved heads were spotted running from the location, Flores said.
One of them was detained late Friday, Flores said, although it was not immediately clear whether he was involved in the shooting.
Officials responded to a call reporting five to six shots fired when they discovered the wounded man.
The sheriff's Homicide Bureau is helping the sheriff's Temple Station with the case, Flores added.
"We are investigating this thing with everything we have," he said.

Why do I feel like I'm down wind of a catapault being wound up tighter waiting for the release.
Also...anyone know what took place on S Myrtle Friday night around 6PM near the 800 Block by Gene's Grinders?
I drove by the scene of the shooting on Bloomdale Street on Saturday afternoon. When all of a sudden four to five sheriff's police cars went to a house on Bloomdale street with their guns drawn. I saw a young latino man who looked like a gang member and other family members in front of the house. The poilce went to the back of the house and to the school which is behind the houses on Bloomdale street. The police were definitely looking for somebody behind this house in the school and park behind the house.
What really makes me mad, is the lack of information and news from the city officials and police about all the recenty gang shootings and crime. Bloomdale street is north of the 210 fwy and east of the end of the 605 fwy, in the city of Duarte proper. Most of the shooting have been north of the 210 fwy, not in the so called no-mans land. Why is everybody making the erroneous assumption that the gang violence is mostly in the un-incorporated parts of Monrovia and Duarte.
Even with the increased police patrols, the shootings and violence continues, the police seem powerless to stop the gang activity.
I still see Duarte Sheriff patrolling the Ralphs, Duarte Inn and other local buisnesses looking for expired car registrations. The Duarte Sheriffs should be looking for murderous gang members not expired and car registration, in this time of extreme racially motivated violence.
So gang members don't shop or stay at or party in local hotels? Guess again because they do.
You're making the presumption that LASD deputies are looking for violations they might not be looking for at all.
I ran into a DESR O.G. a while back at Ralphs. They don't just hang out at each others homes. Cops will stop gangsters for minor vehicle violations just to shake them. They won't always cite them though so the probable cause for stopping them remains for some other deputy or officer to use some other day.
Many of the cars gangsters use are known by local law enforcement and they look for them. Even in knowing many of their rides they'll turn up in something different when out looking for other gangsters.
It's not always what you think it is when you see cops in certain areas.

I don't have a shred of confidence in the Duarte Sheriff and Monrovia Police to control the local gangs. I work the night shift and have been stopped by the same cops driving my truck just a few nights apart in the early morning hours. These guys couldn’t remember a bright yellow customized truck like mine, so excuse me if I don’t buy the story that cops know what cars they are looking for.
The Ralphs store in Duarte is NOT a gang hang-out. The police need to visit the local bars like the Elephant bar and especially 4th Dimension on Myrtle. A person was shot and killed outside the 4th Dimension, almost at the front door of the Monrovia police station. The 4th Dimension is a known gang hang-out and absolutely nothing has been done there.
One only has to look at all the violence in the last few months. If the Monrovia and Duarte police had any clue about local gangs we would not have seen this recent explosion of violence in Monrovia and Duarte.
The local police need help from the Feds to find and arrest gang members responsible for these recent, racially motivated gang murders. The Feds used RICO indictments against the Florencia-13 gang members in Los Angeles for targeting blacks. The latino/sureno street gangs have been killing blacks in S. California at the direction of the mexican mafia prison gang for years. This type of racially motivated murders happened in Highland Park, Harbor-Gateway, Florence and now Monrovia.

I have seen a lot more cars pulled over and checked out in the past couple of weeks. I know a lot of people get upset about racial profiling, but if a police officer sees a group of thug looking guys they will pull them over if they have any small reason to do so. It's a free country and we are all able to dress how we want, but if you dress like a gang member you should expect to be hassled. How else can law enforcement scare these guys off? The gangs need to feel like it's too much trouble to make trouble in our area. Not just Monrovia but the bordering cities and county area.
You know, "Anonymous" I tend to agree with you..One of my relatives has been pulled over and although he was upset he did say to the officer that he understood what they're going through...I, in turn shared my thoughts with him, along the lines of your comment....you don't want things going on as "usual" .. you can't cry with two tongues, one saying "leave me alone" and the other, "why isn't anything being done"....(?)
I hate to be indifferent to the profiling cry, but I am to a degree. The stops I see going on are everyone of all colors, even some shady looking white guys in a pickup down on one of the streets the MHS students claim is easy drug purchases.
All that aside if some doesn't look like they belong in an area nor do they look like they have any reason to be there what is the harm in pulling them over and asking what's up?
Monrovia is small enough to know who lives where and where you can expect to find them on a given day. What concerns me most is what happens in another few weeks when the increased patrols die down and the bad guys aren't caught what will happen next? The leave Duarte and come back to finish up the retribution hits?

i knew the guy that got killed in fron of 4th dimension he was a member a BSV its a wanna be gang in monrovia wich is feuding with MNV i recall hearing the young man got killed by either MNV or pasadena but it was a brown on brown killing.to tell you the truth no MNV or esd go to elephant bar some MNV gang member do frequent 4th D but the bouncers usually dont let them in becuase they start alot of trouble. over the years monrovia has become a verry boring city, every year we have less and less liquer stores some how people think with less liquers less trouble but i dont think its the case here , monrovia can take away all the liqyer stores dairies markets it wants its not gonna stop anything most gang bangers are into hard drugs like meth , weed ,rock , ect ect
Consensual contacts are a standard for any good cop. You can learn a lot by just stopping and talking to people. Bad guys or simple jackasses will gripe if no probable cop is present but that puts them on the radar...and should.
I'm sure the guys working all the extra patrols have been reminded about racial profiling and having PC for stops. Some people will gripe when stopped and that's to be expected but I'd rather hear that than let some idiot go who does something later.
FX, if the same cop stops you twice in the span of a few nights and has no reason, like a traffic violation than call his watch commander if it upsets you that much. I doubt it's personal with them.
Believe what you want to believe but the guys out there, at least the Monrovia and Duarte officers, know most of the gangsters on sight it's not like they've been hiding over the past few years. Knowing them and catching them in the act are two different things.
With Duarte usually manning one two man unit and Monrovia handling calls, accidents, being under staffed and such it isn't hard to figure out why gangs have gotten out of hand.
Course the deps did catch the two gangsters involved in the latest shooting didn't they?
I'm sure you know that witnesses willing to talk are not easy to come by in gang shootings. It's not a matter of being clueless regardless of what you feel. It's having enough evidence for an arrest and a filing and gang cases are some of the hardest to get the info needed on to put some idiot away.

It's all so frustrating when a call can be made anonymously. This town has a 'grapevine' where a heck of a lot of folks know what's coming down...I hope they start filtering it more..even if it's incorrect and I hope the cops continue to keep the pressure on NO MATTER who they're stopping! *and I know that with each stop they are putting their own lives on the line...peace...
I will disagree with the comment about the 4th Dimension bar, there are many gangs members in the club every week-end. If the Monrovia police would stop more people at 2:00 am and check for drunk drivers or go inside the club more often the gang members will find some other place to go.
FX
mpd could stop people at 2am it wont make a diffrence gang bangers arent dumb they know going to 4th dimension is gonna get them busted thats why most of them hang out in friends house's, motels , grand park , for example grand park is a beutifull parl i justo go there alot but its pretty dangerous at night since its gamg member hang out to smoke weed a couple months ago i was there during the day on a friday when some mnv and some durocs came across each other and started fighting like animali got out of the rather quickly before guns came out .lasd also need to check out behind la palamo wich is a esd gang member hang on sunday i have seen them plenty of times
I found out tonight that the guy that was shot is my basketball teammate in this adult league I play for. I can't believe he was shot. I believe he played basketball for duarte high. He's a very nice person. This is complete BS. This non sense has to stop.
That guy that was shot is alos Brandon Lee's cousin.
You think it had any connection?
