A plea for help in Monrovia slaying

The photo is of a memorial at the site in unincorporated Monrovia where Sammantha Salas was shot to death as she and a friend walked home to her father’s apartment from a nearby dairy on Myrtle Avenue. The case remains unsolved. I receives this letter as one of several asking that a reward be established in the case. Sheriff’s detectives and the Los Angeles County Supervisors have been reluctant to set up a reward in the case for fear that any information they receive will be suspect. Here’s the letter:

On behalf of the family of 16 year old Samantha Sales,
killed January 26, 2008 in Monrovia by two young men,
I want to urge you to encourage Monrovia Mayor Rob
Hammod and Sheriff Lee Baca to establish a monetary
reward for anyone with information leading to the
arrest of these suspects.

with best regards,

Jim Weiss  President, Council of Los Angeles Archdiocese St. Vincent DePaul Society

  1. Thank you for noting this was in the unincorporated area. I whole heartedly agree a reward fund is needed, however Mr Hammond needs to work with the MAD council for such funding. MAD is the govt body most closely overseeing the activity in the unincorporated.

Please don’t shoot the messenger. At a recent neighborhood watch meeting her shooting was brought up. The position given for her shooting is that she was wearing gang related apparel and that her father had gang ties.
Doesn’t make the shooting right or any less heinous as she herself was not a gang member, but that is the information being given people to people who ask.

  2. I am so tried of hearing that these kids where shot because they have gang members in there familes. That shit need to stop this little girl could have been the next president of the United States for all we know. Her killer is still out there and he could kill again if not stopped. That is the whole point here. Sammantha family wants justice for there little girl. And they do not want anyone else to go through what they are going through right now. That is the point not what she was wearing or who her family knew and didn’t know. We need answers not talk !!

  3. Please , we have to pressure the police to offer a reward. The old news stories get lost in the sands of time. We want the heartless killers who killed Samantha Salas we will not give up and we will not forget. We want these killers arrested and convicted. Please let’s keep calling the Monrovia P.D. and The sheriff’s., we have to keep the pressure on.We will never forget and the killers all I can say is we will reach our goal and justice will be served.
