Arcadia death ruled murder

The strange events surrounding the death of a 25-year-old man in a ritzy Arcadia neighborhood got stranger Monday as police announced they are investigating the case as a homicide. When reporter Brian Day and I first heard about this Sunday night we believed it was a suicide.

Guess we were wrong

Here is some of reporter Robert Hong’s story on the incident:

In only the second homicide so far this year in Arcadia, police Monday identified the man as Justo Cesar Morales, 25, of Arcadia. Officers found Morales at about 1:40 p.m. Sunday, dead inside his parents’ home in the 2200 block of Canyon Road.

Investigators say whoever shot Morales went there looking for him.

Shortly before the discovery, someone reported hearing the rare sound of gunshots in the neighborhood, Arcadia Police Department officials said.

After pinpointing where the shots came from, officers went to the home and found Morales.

No one else was at the house at the time of the shooting.

It was no random act; Morales was targeted, police said Monday.

  1. I’ve been an arcadia resident for my whole life, 29 years, expect I moved away for college but visited regularly. This comes has a huge surprise. These days it seems like anything can happen anywhere.

  2. I’ve been privledged to have known Cesar since middle school, (Im now 25, went to Arcadia High with him, etc) and he has always been a great guy and great friend. He was NEVER involved in questionable activity and I know that it comes to all of his friends and family as a horrible shock. I only hope it gets straightened out. What a tragedy.

  4. One thing and only one thing I despise about journalists is the tendency to jump to conclusions before all the facts are in. Love what you do Mr. Giradot but do us all a favor and try to keep the speculations at a minimum, to read that you and staff believed it to be a suicide when its far from it doesn’t fair too well with the friends and family of the victims. Thanks for correcting yourself regardless.

I do certainly hope this homicide gets solved and not the way of Jerry Yeh and other crimes that APD don’t ever seem to solve. If APD can’t handle it they ought to work with detectives that can.

This is a far cry from the norm for that department and often one remains curious in the competency that this department may have.
