Baca cites race as motivation in shootings

This comes from John Schwada’s blog on the FOX 11 website. Thanks to LA Observed for pointing it out.

Schwada is one of the few TV reporters I respect. That’s primarily because he comes from a newspaper background and knows how to write, edit and speak proper English. Additionally, (and perhaps most importantly) he is a good reporter as this blog post should make clear.

Baca’s deputies in Temple City and Monrovia city officials might want to take note of these remarks. During the late January and early February Monrovia crime spree that left four dead, there was constant denial of racial undertones in the crimes.

Here’s an excerpt from Schwada’s blog entry:

LA County Sheriff Lee Baca, on April 4th, told a largely African-American audience in Compton that when Latino gangs are at war with black gangs over drugs and turf they are sometimes satisfied to kill any young black living in their rivals territory in order to flex their criminal muscle. In other words, Baca asserted innocents are being targeted for death by gangs just because of their race. Sounds like a hate-crime to most of us.

  1. In reading the entire Schwada story why am I not surprised this is getting no attention in the newspapers?

Of course there is a racial component to what’s been going on and the Latino Gangs are racist to the core and most often the ones who could care less about killing someone without gang affiliation based only on race. The more gang members who come from countries to the south and the more racist actions you’ll see.

What is happening in Mexico, Cental and South America when it comes to gang crime and the way gangsters operate there has been exported to us along with their hopes for better medical care, an adequate education and any type of hope for the future. All of course to be paid for by the American taxpayer.

We here are taking it up the ass daily and our politicians smile, lie, and then jog to the bank while we make sure we don’t accuidentally look at someone the wrong way who cuts us off in traffic less we get shot.

The USA has turned into a country full of cowards because we are letting it happen. Shame on us all.

  2. Why are people even talking about how gangs operate,? we already know how they do it. Let’s talk about how to exterminate them. It is about time that authorities and politicians talk about national terrorists, savage criminals and psychopatic murderers, who are the real “Street Kings,” who outnumber some of our police force. Those so called “Gangsters,” are nothing more than just cowards, cold blooded killers. How can we allow them to organize themselves, to the point that we have to talk about: “Their turf.” Let’s rather talk about how that problem should be solved. No programs implemented in the past to deal with gangs have worked, this is the time for the authorities to make radical changes in their approach, implement harsh, drastic measures against gangs, so they can be eliminated. What do we do with a rotten apple, do we put it in our pocket.?

  4. Local Boy, You are right. If you take a look back at all of the shootings that happened in Monrovia and Duarte they all took place in or around drug areas.

  5. FOX11 reporter Chris Blatchford reported an ongoing gang race war three years ago and it received little attention. Blatchford for some reason is not following up on this story, instead it has been given to Schwada? Internal politics at KTTV? You think Schwada is a good journalist? Blatchford is GREAT, he broke this story first.

  6. LOCAL boy: street gangs were exported to latin America when gang members, that happen to be illegal immigrants, were deported back to their country of origins from the US. These gang members continued what they had learned in the USA. There were no street gangs in Latin America before the deportations. Street gangs are an American gift.

  7. LocalBoy: there were no street gangs in Latin America until the US started deporting gang members that were illegal immigrants. Upon arriving back at their home country these gang members started new sects. Street gangs are an American export.
