Suspected Arcadia killer a teacher
Brandon Michael Landreth, suspected in the Sunday slaying of Justo Morales holds a California state teaching credential and was teaching at Muir High when arrested in the case, according to preliminary information.
A commenter here said Landreth and Morales were involved in a love triangle that went sour. We have no evidence of that, however Landreth and his wife recently divorced.
Neighbors on Canyon Road in Arcadia where Morales was killed were guarded when speaking to reporter Robert Hong who visited the scene this afternoon.
In Monrovia, where Landreath and his estranged wife lived, neighbors said little about the couple.
For now Ladreath is being held at the Twin Towers jail on a no bail warrant. He will be arraigned Friday, authorities said.

Comments
Mr.Landreth was my history teacher, and was a good teacher at that. It really hurts me to know that my teacher may have been involved in such a horrible crime. If Mr.Landreth ever sees this comment i hope he knows that he has a supporter and that he is truly cared about.
Thank you

Sorry Jazmine and Thomas...
Apparently you don't know your teacher and/or your neighbor. Sadly it is already common knowledge that he has been harboring these feelings of hate for Cesar for more than two years now... Since his divorce. Clearly she already knew what unfortunately Cesar found out... Truthfully if there was an issue he should of gone after the source, his ex who went looking for a new man! She dumped his A$$ when she found out he was psycho. Too bad she didn't let anyone else know. Sadly Cesar had no idea about this woman's past and if he knew she had an obsessive ex-husband he would have known not to get involved... besides it isn't his fault she got involved with him. If anything Landreth should have had words with her first. Instead he decided to kill, yes I said it, kill an innocent victim and has not only ended the life of Cesar (25 years old) but has also selfishly ruined the lives of Cesar's family, his ex-wife, and even the lives of his own two children.
So Tom and Jazmine, thanks for supporting the selfish psychopath, but next time instead of seeing him as he "appears" maybe you should look deeper into his eyes and next time you may see the true meaning of hatred and/or evil. Also take a look at his myspace page... It is pretty erie. There is some prophetic messaging there... Maybe he should listen to his own advice about adversity and staying strong. You can find it by using his name or his alias... "brilliant mistake." Chiiling to say the least.
Rest Easy Cesar, in addition to your family and closest friends, your baseball friends miss you too. Don't worry on the day of judgement for This Landreth psycho, I hope you are standing there holding the same gun he pointed at you, but you being the bigger man will only laugh and let him know that the hell he faces in jail and on judgement day is ten times worse than any pain you may have felt.
Landreth.... Be careful picking up the soap that may be the last pleasure you will ever feel on this Earth. I hope you rot in jail and then continue to do so in HELL!

Well Big T, thanks for establishing your street credibility! By doing this you not only discredited yourself as "character witness" but also, in fact have actually brought your friend's credibility into question as well.
Unfortunately under California Law as someone who has been convicted and done hard time, you have effectively been entitled to "LOSS OF CREDIBILITY BEFORE THE COURT: Convicted felons are typically disqualified from providing sworn testimony as a witness in a court proceeding or serving as a juror."
Sorry, that's just the way it is... So I will no longer dignify your comment with response. Enough Said...

Yo, Muckdog and Legal beagle,
No one is guilty until proven so under the US constitution. So leave this poor guy alone. Who knows, maybe someone else dressed like him did it to get him in trouble. So stop talking about people if you dont know them. Home wreckers will get whats coming to them anyways for trying to break up a home.
So the both a ya, go back to russia or china or n korea where your kind a thinking is still good. Here is the good ol U.S. of A, we treat people with dignity and respect until proven guilty BEYOND a reasonable doubt, do SHUT UP! Maybe, maybe, a psychaitrist will say he went temporarily nuts, cause that could be if it was him but I doubt it. he was set up from the get go.
Peace in the middle east
PS: Go Muir 'Stangs!

For all you that think this teacher is innocent they did find the murder weapon in his possession. The facts will come out soon.
Posted by: Friend | April 7, 2008 11:06 AM
Yes Big T and im4dteacher:
Set up? Um, they found him with the murder weapon, knew he rode up on his skateboard. He had motive, intent, and had plenty of time to devise a plan of action. Need more? Ok to set the record straight, Cesar did not wreck the marriage... it was already over they were already separated. If anything she is to blame for most likely not telling Cesar about this, and her psycho ex husband.
So do your homework and know at least some of the facts before you voice an opinion.
And to i'm4dteacher, you are absolutely correct, love does make people do some strange things, but a jealous rage and pre-meditated murder is still not excusable... and will not fly under the insanity plea. If it was a knee jerk reaction that is temporary insanity, but to find out where someone lives, park a block away, ride up on a skateboard, murder someone, ride away, back to your car and then go home... Why did he park a block away and ride a skateboard? well it is so nobody can identify his car being at the scene. If this was insanity he would have driven right up to the house. This was very calculated and is not insanity at all. Landreth is obviously a smart (enough) man and has been harboring these feelings for over a year and a half since the divorce... yes the divorce.
And to clear a few things up, I was born and raised in California, Santa Monica actually. And the funny thing is this reminds me of a very famous case years ago where a jealous ex-husband murdered his wife and some guy she was friends with at the time... Remember the white Bronco? Ok OJ, Nicole and Ron.
Nobody thought OJ could do a thing like this either. I myself was one of them, but once the facts came out... my opinion changed. Just because he was a teacher at your school, does not mean you know him, most teachers keep their social lives separate from their work lives... for obvious reasons.
Posted by: Muckdog_34 | April 7, 2008 1:01 PM
OJ was not found guilty either, so dont trash him either. This teacher is not guilty until proven so without a doubt, so all you strike out on this one and shut up and let the justice system sort it out and find the man innocent! If he is not innocent, which I still think he is, he will be found temporarily insane because even though he parked far away and all that, maybe, just maybe he did it because he only wanted to talk to the dude and did not want the killed guy to know he was there and would not open the door. if the guy sees him drive up, he most likely would not open the door. maybe he just went to talk to him and once he saw him at the door, he became enraged and insane and just happened to have the gun for protection in case the dead guy tried something funny on him and it just happens that he fired first. that's all that is probably the truth.
On the oj thing, that goldman guy had it coming for messing around with drugs and stuff, didnt you hear the theory that drug dealers did them in?

this guy sealed his fate that day, he will live a life of regret the rest of his life an will never play ball with his 2 young sons or see them graduate, when its all said and done and he sits alone on death row what will his thoughts be, was it worth it how many other lives did he destroy, in a brief moment he will beforgotten, he was better off putting the gun to his own head, and lets pray he doesn't drop the soap, or he'ed wish he put the gun to his own head. rest in peace S.O.B

I have known Brandon for almost 20 years but I haven't spoken with him in over 5 years.
I hope you are all wrong and an asteroid smashes Earth to bits as you realize it.
If he is the skater, then he was nuts. The timeline does not favor his case but I can tell you, to the minutest degree of error, that if he did shoot this guy in the manner it was performed, that he was definitely insane or otherwise mentally impared as a LICENSED brain analyser would determine.
Those who know Brandon as a cool teacher and person see his good-doings. Those who see Brandon as a murderer cannot visualize mankind's folly and you can't identify why you are not seeing the big picture as the former relates to it. We need to understand this point before reading further. You have not heard the case. Given that the comments I have read so far are (I don't have words but you get my meaning), I hope none of you live in Los Angeles County, CA and are capable of arriving Downtown to hear the case to deliberate and provide a verdict in this case.

...and I was at Cesar's funeral and saw the 300+ people who mourned his loss. Everyone who met and knew Cesar, loved him; but this guy never even met him, he just knew that Cesar had dated his ex-wife and couldn't handle that. Cesar and Tanya (Brandon's ex) had broken up several months ago and Tanya had moved on to dating somebody else. I believe the man is innocent until proven guilty, but the way the media and this board have portrayed him as a 'good guy' and a 'cool teacher' does a tremendous injustice to the great man Cesar was or the potential that was lost when he was brutally murdered in cold blood.

I knew Cesar well and we played ball together for years. He was well aware that his ex-girlfriends, ex-husband was a psycho, but felt it was all talk, and that nothing would ever come of it. He loved her a lot, and would be disgusted by the way people are talking about her, especially his "friends." He didn't deserve this, he was a great person. The only person that deserves to die/pay is her ex-husband. He's the one that snapped, he's the one that chose to take a life.

Also as far as Landreth... I'm sorry I guess your mindset will change when you find out he confessed to his friend and his ex!
Murder suspect allegedly confessed to ex-wife

ARCADIA - A John Muir High School teacher confessed to his ex-wife he shot and killed a 25-year-old man who had dated the woman, telling her the victim did not suffer and that "it was quick," according to court documents.
Teacher Brandon Michael Landreth, 30, of Pasadena pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Thursday in Pasadena Superior Court, where investigators filed a request seeking to increase his bail, previously set at more than $2 million.
Judge Terry Smerling ordered Landreth held without bail.
In the bail increase request, investigators cited items police found inside Landreth's car when officers stopped it in Pasadena on April 2, three days after 25-year-old Justo Cesar Morales was shot to death at his parents' Canyon Road home in northern Arcadia.
Inside the silver Volkswagen police found camping gear, a backpack full of clothing and other articles, and $9,000 in cash Landreth had withdrawn from his bank, investigators said.
In a search of Landreth's home, authorities recovered a handgun and ammunition. They also found a piece of paper with the address of another possible victim. That man, like Morales, also had dated Landreth's ex-wife, police said.
Landreth had been under police surveillance as the prime suspect in Morales' slaying after investigators interviewed the ex-wife. She told them Landreth had confessed to her that he shot Morales, according to police and court documents.
The ex-wife also

told investigators Lendreth had threatened to kill two men she had dated - Morales and the man whose address was written on the paper found at the suspect's home, Arcadia Police Department Sgt. Dean Caputo said.
Landreth told his ex-wife that he would "kill this person some day," Caputo said.
Morales was gunned down at about 1:30 p.m. March 30. Based on information they got from a witness, detectives said a man on a skateboard rode up to the front of the Canyon Road home, opened fire when Morales answered the door, then skate-boarded away.
The witness said he saw the man get into a late-model, four-door silver Volkswagen and drive off. Caputo noted Thursday that Landreth owns a late-model silver Volkswagen.
Another witness who came forward, a friend of Landreth's, said the suspect also confessed to him that he killed Morales, Caputo said. That witness described details of the shooting scene that were known only to investigators.
Landreth taught history at 1,200-student Muir High. One day before his arrest, he had been rehired as a teacher there - part of a reorganization in which teachers at the troubled school were made to reapply for their jobs.
