Clark Rockefeller describes pain of missing his daughter

The London Telegraph reports on a second installment of Dateline's interview with Clark Rockefelelr, aka Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter. Here's a bit of their story, and a photo of Rockefeller posing with reporter Natalie Morales:

The bespectacled father, who police say is actually a German-born national called Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, gave an interview to NBC, due to be broadcast in two parts next week.

rockefellermorales.jpgIn an excerpt shown on Thursday night, Rockefeller says he hoped to live a life of obscurity in Baltimore with his daughter, Reigh Storrow Boss, who he is accused of snatching from a Boston street on July 27 before fleeing to New York and then Maryland.

During the six days they were missing, he did not think about returning Reigh to her mother, Sandra Boss, he says, because being with her was "almost like a drug".

The couple's marriage ended last year and Reigh was on a social worker-supervised visit to see her father from the UK at the time of the alleged kidnapping, their first contact in seven months.

Rockefeller told NBC he took his daughter to Baltimore because he could not afford the life he wanted in Boston.

Asked if he planned to go into hiding, he said "That's perhaps an extreme way of saying it. I just wanted to live an obscure life in Baltimore."

I suspect Gerhartsreiter is a kind of long-range planner. Picking his victims very slowly and getting their confidence, before striking.

I am guessing that Dr. Hedi Leistner is the one he has "always looked up to"; one article mentioned that she was a friend to whom he had gone for all of his crises. Can anyone confirm this?

Bingo! I had the weirdest idea she might be his handler, and (1978-85) he always seemed to connect with Germanic-named people.

Oddly enough, as wacky as the 'lost spy possibilty' seemed, Crock became close to a Harvard visiting prof who wrote the book on the Stasi: http://www.seducedbysecrets.com/

No - he says its someone named "Harry Copeland." Perhaps that's another dead end? http://genforum.genealogy.com/copeland/messages/4759.html

Very interesting Boston Globe article & audio clip, but be aware that any discussion thereof may lead to banning on the Hahrald site. (Pat Purcell's fiefdom is incredibly petty!)

I've been following this case too (not as avidly as you, though!) I don't know if this is the right Harry Copeland, but this is the only one I can find in New York in the right period, who dies in the right range. As to who this man *IS*, or whether this is a red herring thrown out by "Clark Rockefeller", I have no clue.

Maybe Frank Giradot or some other enterprising reporter could investigate this further?

Great work, Anonymous!!! ORIGINAL WORK, I should add... now, if only we can figure out the mystery of the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza. Address? Owner? Was he fencing fake Mondrians & Rothkos, there?

(Imagine you want to sell fake art, easily copied fake art, like Mondrian & Rothko paintings. Everyone in the art world knows some Rockefellers have collected these kinds of paintings; who better to make the sale than some 'cash-poor Rockefeller nephew'?)

One possibility: how else could he pay the rent?

Perhaps "Harry Copeland" is an anagram?
