Few details on Santa Fe Springs propane fire
SANTA FE SPRINGS -- A person was hospitalized with burns Sunday after a propane tank fire, according to police, however few details are available as the fire department did not provide any information.
The incident was reported about 3:30 p.m. in the 10900 block of Gard Avenue, Whittier police Lt. Steve Dean said.
The injured person was believed to be trying to put out the fire, he said.
Several nearby homes were evacuated as firefighters worked on the blaze, Dean said.
A dispatcher at the Santa Fe Springs Fire Department refused to give out a direct phone number to the handling station, or even to pass along a reporter's phone number to fire officials. She also said the department has no public information officer, and that there was simply no way for the department to release information on the incident Sunday.
What happens in Santa Fe Springs stays in Santa Fe Springs, I guess.

What's the difference between the FD refusing to give out news information and the Tribune having it but sitting on it?
Probably a cover up of an illegal peanut roasting operation that supplies the Pico Rivera swapmeet.
I live about two blocks east of where this occurred. According to one on-scene SFS/Whittier police officer the homeowner operates a business cooking chili and barbique from the backyard. Not sure if the biz is permitted or inspected...my quess is not for either.
Neighbors I talked with that live next door to this house, said he has six or more large propane containers on the property.
The whole neighborhood shook and dozens of car alarms were set off. The guy is lucky his injuries were not more severe.
I hope the city inspects this guy before he starts the business back up.
