Looking at the video several times it appears the Officer tripped, wonder why they ran from Officers and what's all that writing on the guys body?.
Was the passenger that jumped out, sat down and surrendered injured or was he the smart one?

This is exactly why stuff happens to cops like the ones in oakland. Law officers think that because they wear a badge that they are above the law. It's about time that the criminals are no longer afraid of the cops. Jus like the good ol days....FTP!

The problem with all of you who think the officers actions were commendable is that the badguy will probably get off of all charges and possibly collect a big cash settlement.
Cops are here to enforce, not punish. Had he not delivered the kick, the suspect would most likely end up in prison. Now he will get a free pass when the DA refuses to file charges saying that the kick taints the ability to charge him and the fear that he will file a major law suit.

It's very easy for all of us to sit here and Monday Morning Quarterback what happened out there. I know the Officers are trained professionals who are supposed act with the highest levels of restraint during these situations but let's look at several things. The Officer was involved in a very high stress situation where his life and the lives of others were at the mercy of this tatooed hoodlum who showed absolutely no regard for the safety of anyone. It is extremely difficult if not impossible for the Officer to automatically turn off the adrenaline. We have no audio of what was being said between the Officer or suspect, what was the suspect telling the Officer. What previous knowledge of the suspect did the Officer have? The probability of a heavily tatooed known gang member, fleeing for the police with reckless abandon, armed with a weapon is very high why else would someone be fleeing in that manner. Gangmembers make a living out of intimidating others through Robbery, Theft, Extortion and Shootings. It's time we start placing the blame where it really belongs, with the perp. Should The Officer have kicked the suspect, the answer is "No" and I only say that because the camera was overhead. It's no wonder why our society is falling apart thses gangmembers should fear the Police but society and the media keep handcuffing the Police. I don't know about you but im not worried about getting kicked by the Police, probably because im not a gangmember or probably because im not going to shoot at a cop either.

El Monte Police Dept is well known for their police brutality. Claiming to protect and serve while they are really Bullies with badges in cops clothing.

I've met both nice cops and jerk cops, but over all, my experience has been good. They will treat people some of the time in a tone of anger because of the low-lives they have to deal with, but they won't act that way with you if you are not a low life. It is unfortunate that The El Monte City Council decided to lay-off about 20 officers, many younger ones, just because they would not take a pay cut. Instead, the City Council hired a City Manager for a $250,000 contract and the guy ended up being arrested for prostitution solicitation in Pomona weeks later! They ended up replacing him with local El Montean whose currently on a 90-day trial period--wonder if he's making $250,000 too! He was hired because because they like his bubbly personality! Who knows what people he's connected to! Instead what they should do is hire some more cops back into their old positions! Same with the Fire Station that was closed down by the City Council. It all smacks of corruption and someone should do something about it but only a few people are interested or dare to care. It was impressive that the Police Officers Association invested so much into the literature that was mailed out for election day. They really were impacted but so was the community by giving us less officers. Thanks City Council for looking out for the community by allowing us to be more vulnerable to crime! Officers don't get paid as much as your $250,000 City Manager! You could get a handful of officers hired with that salary. Get a cheaper accountant or someone really eager to work for the city who is willing to work for less. A living is a living! Give us back our officers and Fire Station.
