ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST -- A young Pico Rivera man was killed and three others were injured late Tuesday after a car they were in drove off the edge of Highway 39 north of Azusa, authorities said.
Steven Alex Sanchez, 19, of Pico Rivera was killed in the crash, according to coroner's and California Highway Patrol officials.
"A 2005 Ford Mustang ... went over the side, approximately 50 to 60 feet down an embankment after the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway," CHP Sgt. Jesse Holguin said in a statement.
"As a result of the collision, the right rear passenger ... sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene," he added.
The driver of the 2005 Mustang, 19-year-old Jose Torres of Pico Rivera, and a passenger, 20-year-old Carlos Ineriano of Pico Rivera, were flown by helicopter to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center with moderate injuries, CHP officials said.
Another passenger, 19-year-old Javier Araujo of Pico Rivera, was treated at the scene for minor injuries, officials said.
Sanchez was the only person in the car not wearing a seat belt, CHP officials said.
More than 40 people from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the accident and it took about two hours for them get the injured to the hospital and clear the accident scene, department spokeswoman Fred Stowers said.
The two injured passengers had to be carried to the road before they were flown to a local hospital, he said. The dead man had to be freed from the wreckage by fire personnel.
The crash remained under investigation Wednesday, Holguin said. CHP officers are looking for witnesses.

To comment on the story the kids were all wearing their seatbelts, the seatbelt was taken off in hopes of reviving our Steven before the chp had arrive but sadly no luck.We will miss you cousin. You will always be in our hearts. We must not dwell on the hows, whys and coulda shoulda wouldas, but on the best times we had together. "Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me." Psalm 23:4 We will miss you always. love.

Give thanks everyday that we have life, never take the people we love for granted...
Steven,
Do not worry about the loved ones you have left behind, find the light and be on your way, do not stop to pay any attention of any of the stuff that has been said never the less wrighten, when you get to your destination ask the lord to please forgive all the harsh and cold hearted people that have caused turmoil during a time of grife for you family and friends.
The clouds will open the sun will shine, you will hear trumpets playing and as you walk through the golden gates you will be holding the hand of your loved one, angles will guide you to our heavenly father where you will find peace and comfort like no other and thats when he will welcome you with open arms to your new home.
Do not ask why me? the lord has a plan for every single one of us including you lil buddy.
You get two stages of reward. One was your life here; and the other is your new life with nothing but eternal happiness.
Family and friends,
I am almost sure that you keep asking your self, why did this happen to us? The lord will only give us what we can handle, and some times it's a test, a test of faith....
Death will bring out, guilt, fear, irritation, resentment, selfishness, and other hostile impulses but it all comes down to all of you finding a place of comfort, or it can simply be the basic evil inclination that takes you down the path of despair and heartache.
Do not think that the lord is not walking beside you, he is the one carring you...
I will keep all of you in prayer, although I only know a few of you, my heart truly feels your pain.
Love is endless and memories are priceless.
Sorry for you loss Alex,Tracy and kids. Bob, Mary and family. To Felipe and all of the Sanchez family may you find peace and comfort like Steven has.
