Local man dies in Lancaster prison
From the Associated Press:
LANCASTER -- Officials say an inmate from the San Gabriel Valley has died at a hospital after being found unconscious in his cell at the state prison in Lancaster.
Prison spokesman George Allen says 48-year-old Greg Alan Thomas was found unconscious under his bunk sometime Thursday.
Thomas was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital and died Friday morning.
He was a resident of Covina and La Puente prior to his incarceration.
Allen says Thomas was convicted in 1999 of first degree burglary and had been serving a 25-year sentence. The cause of death is under investigation.

There are two very sad things about losing a loved one to a death in a prison. First you have lost someone that you loved. and secondly you will never know what caused the death. There is no oversight in the prison system so they will cover-up what they want to and dispose of any facts that exist, and refuse to give anyone any information. I am saddened to hear of any family's loss.
I'm sure we will see more riots as more guards get their work time reduced, even if it means they have to cause the riot themselves to prove their importance. So how does the legislature propose to reduce prison overcrowding without releasing prisoners?
The only way a savings will be realized in the prisons, is to keep the prison guard pay where it is at and do not reduce their hours, and release the prisoners according to the Federal Courts.
Otherwise many lives will be lost in the process of trying to save money in the prison budget on the backs of the guards paychecks.
A death.... a terrible loss to the family... a terrible loss to all of us who see how UNFAIR this whole prison system is to the inmates, the care they are provided for shelter (terrible crowding), for food (daily bologna), for medical care (waiting months to see doctors for cancer and then records of tests are lost), how UNFAIR to the families of inmates when they can't find out what happened when a son dies, when families of the Chino riot don't know where their sons are housed now, when families of the Avenal riot don't know what happened...
How much more will we voters tolerate?
Are you listening, senators... assemblypeople?
My condolences to the Thomas family.
When is the general public going to wake up and demand reform that has been needed for many years in the CDCr? The atrocities are horrific. The judge sends these men and women to prison as punishment, loosing their rights in the free society is the punishment. Not DEATH!!!!!
How long are the families of the inmates going to put up with this kind of thing before we finally get some backbone and demand that the CDC be made accountable for it's actions? Don't the families care enough to see that there loved ones are being tortured and abused and even killed and we allowing these Bas---- to do this, then the question is what kind of people are we.We do hold power in our hands if we join together and demand that our fmiliy members be released like the Federal judges ruled or take this to a higher place and see if we get satisfaction there. But this kind of injustice has got to stop, is everyone in California so afraid of the CDC that they won't come up against them I think thats BS. Wheres these stupid scared Democrates we voted for if they can't fight for us then we have to get rid of them and put someone who has the balls and the mentality to do the job. WE need this Constitutional Convention as fast as possible hopefully they will have the backbone to fight against injustice which all of us have been suffering under!!! My deepest condolences to the Thomas family, and I pray this will be the last family to have to suffer like this!!!!!!

I am so sad to hear about another death. The violence goes on. The fear goes on. Most of us are afraid to say anything or even write to a a patient that is caught in this nightmare. They call them inmates. They are patients just as much as the guards are PTSD patients. It is a giant psych ward out of control The guards are scared because they spend a little more than they make and they have gotten accustomed to all the overtime. Now they are going to have to give up their big diesel truck they drive to work in. Or they will default on their mortgage. They fear they will become patients inside the prison if they lose their jobs. They are prisoners to their lifestyle of trinkets and ego. They live in FEAR. Fear of becoming a patient themselves on the inside of the system. They probably helped start the riot at Chino.
All this could stop if we legalized marijuana and grew it everywhere. Let's keep the kids out of the medicine cabinet. Keep the kids away from violent video games and violent movies. This society is sick. The drug war is a total failure. The justice system is broken. The state constitution needs a rewrite. Our government is trying to enslave us. The government should be our servant, not the other way around. We are turning into a complete fascist state. Next they will want to take all our guns away because they will say we can not be peaceful and we must trust them to keep the peace. The politicians are living in fear also. It is time to rewrite the California Constitution. http://CaliforniaActionNetwork.com
I wish this was the last death. I wish the torture would stop.
