Four stabbed at party, two of them arrested
WHITTIER -- Four people were stabbed in a fight at a house party late Saturday, and two of them were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Carlos Lizama, 20, of Whittier and a 17-year-old Whittier boy were jailed in connection with the incident, Norwalk sheriff's Lt. John Gannon said.
Lizama was hospitalized with stab wounds to his back but was expected to survive, Gannon said. The teenage suspect was treated and brought to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey.
Gannon said authorities believe they were injured by people trying to defend the alleged victims.
The incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. as deputies responded to complaints about a party in the 11200 block of Miller Street in an unincorporated county area near Whittier, he said.
"Gang affiliation is unclear at this time," Gannon said, "but it does appear to be gang-related."
The apparent victims were a 20-year-old Whittier man who was stabbed through the heart and a 19-year-old Whittier man who was stabbed in the abdomen, the lieutenant said.
The older man was initially listed in grave condition, but after undergoing surgery, both men were expected to survive, authorities said.
Responding deputies found the two alleged victims outdoors, Gannon said, and were tending to them when the two wounded suspects were pushed out of a passing compact car in front of deputies.
Lizama was being held in a hospital jail ward in lieu of $30,000 bail, Gannon said.
The owner of the home, whose name was not available Sunday, was expected to be cited on suspicion of a misdemeanor charge of throwing a "flyer party" and charging an entry fee.
